Ooops.... RIF... I have fallen into that old trap. Please forgive me, I used to know the difference back when I visited more often. I got injured and haven't been here in a while. Yep, that explains a lot, things like why you're buying a new bike, and why velobase.com is in your sig. And also why you're in Texas. I'm going to slink away and feel really stupid for a while now... at least a couple of minutes before I forget why.

I am going to watch this closely..... I have had my eye on these bikes for while....course things like paying for kid's school complicate the bike lust....but. I think it will be really interesting to get the ride report on the terraplane stays.
AS for color.... 2 ideas a restainder blue/grean with cream accents...... very rivendell

Light blue metallics are nice. Gazelle used to have a really nice one in the 70's, much better than the darker version from the 80's. This is a Tour de l'Avenir that came up for sale last year:

Daily update photos. Front triangle is brazed up.
gomango, no I did not get a chance to ride one. In fact never been on a bike built of modern steels either. Made the decision after seeing Dave's work, speaking to him about how he wants his bikes to ride, and knowing that is how I wanted my new bike to ride. I figured if it was even a small improvement over my Gazelle AB-Frame with a better fit, then I'd have a winner.

Looks great! I thought all Dave Kirk frames had those wavy seat stays -glad to see yours will be straight
I vote for white (maybe pearl?) with red accents.
I used to think I didn't like orange bikes (Faema not Molteni for me!), but then the orange bikes thread changed my mind and that orange with light blue is very cool in a "Gulf Racing" kind of way...

I happened to ride a Terraplane two summers ago and I've wanted one ever since.
BBM found a nice frameset for me a year ago that I should have purchased.
Your Kirk provides a nice vicarious buzz until I can afford one.

Mine will have the wavy stays, not straight. It is an option for his frames, they do not come automatically on all of his frames. I had a hard time deciding between the Terraplane and the straight stays with the wrap over stays. I wanted the road carving, stuck to the road feel that the Terraplane stays are supposed to supply (and from reports, delivers), and anyways I already have 3 road bikes with straight stays, two with wrap over stays, one with nicely scalloped stays. Dave's straight stays combine the two, and maybe one day I'll order a Kirk (or maybe an Anderson stainless) sport touring bike with the straight stays. I know the Terraplane isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I like the look and if it works as designed, should make for an incredible ride.

Great looking, and the power transfer is fantastic.
I talked to Dave at NAHBS, and he said all the right things about their shape.

Stan, yeah, I made myself wait a 2 week or something "cooling off" period between the show and putting down my deposit. I had my list narrowed down to Kirk, Anderson and Ellis Cycles (All builders named David, odd thing that) by the end of the show. A few things that Dave Kirk told me when I was talking to him stuck with me, specifically some of his thoughts on tubing choices, how he wants his bikes to ride, and how and why he developed the Terraplane and the Triple-F dropouts. That and the new JKS-Classic was just completely drool-worthy. It came down to really want I wanted most out of the new bike, and in the end Kirk's vision matched that the most. If I happen to fall into a win-fall of cash some where down the line and can carve out another spot in the collection for a second custom, I'll probably give the nod to Dave Anderson for a stainless 4-Seasons as an all-rounder.
Jimmy, no, the JKS bikes come with a sloping crown fork like this:
When it comes to the JKS series, Dave does not compromise on part selection, it is a fully performance oriented design from end to end, everything the best that Dave can get his hands on. I could have gone the fully custom route and selected what ever lugs, crown, etc I wanted, but only the JKS series gets the lightest tubes and the made-for-Kirk JKS chain stays and a few other things.
