Brampton Date Code
As I was disassembling my Hercules Royal Prince to give it a deep cleaning, I noticed that the left BB cup has a little "56" stamped on the outer edge. I've been trying to arrive at a date for this bicycle and this is the only clue I've yet to find on this machine since both wheels had been replaced.
Is the "56" stamped into the cup a date code? See pic below...

It wouldn't surprise if it was, but I can't say for sure. However, if you have the orignal Sturmey-Archer hub, it should be date coded and you can compare the two.

Hey T-Mar, the bike would have most likely had a Hercules A or B Type hub installed, but both the front and rear wheels were replaced, the latter being a Shimano 3-speed hub. So far this is the closest thing I have found to a date code on the bike, which I now believe to be a mid- to late-50's model based on the rear dropouts.
