My very first Road Bike

This is my very very very first bike, i have never cycled before. So I went on craigslist and found this Centurion Sport DLX It fits nice, although i know nothing about bikes. I am a 6'1 Male I plan on using it just to commute the the gym and to work, nothing more than 10 miles apart. I was wondering if you guys think this is a good starter bike?

congratulations
very good start
The Centurion Sport DLX is a great frame I hope the guys at the gym dont tease you much at the frame is a mixte some call it a "girls bike"
If it fits you it's great and you can always upgrade as you get more technical as how does it feel... Was that the one in Louisville? if so there are several great bike shops around to help you on this bike and your following bikes I have well a few too many...

yea I live in Arlington not to far from UTA and i know a Bike Tune shop there. I know its a womans frame but hey i could care less, The guy i bought this from has a trek -which is a mans bike to boot- that i was interested in switching it out for im not sure. I took it out for 6 miles as soon as i got it and MY LORD it was allot fun. although its like 40F outside hahah but to clarify how can you distinguish a male frame from women? is it the horizontal bar as opposed to the slant?

Your bike is a mixte. In French, mixte can mean mixed. In effect, a bike made for both men and women.

Centurion bikes get a lot of love around here. Enjoy!

Looks like a great starter bike. You'll get hooked soon enough. From your above post, it sounds like you are in my neck of the woods. I'm new on BF myself, though not new to riding.

That would be a great starter bike but my guess is that, at 6' 1", the bike is too small for you. Learn a bit about bicycle fit before selecting a bike for your self. Develop a bit of understanding of Bicycle Quality and you will be better prepared to find another bike that will provide a nicer ride quality. And learn a bit about Vintage Bicycle Value before going into the market place to spend your cash.

You can determine how old your bike is by applying some of the information contained in How Old Is My Bike?

Hope that proves helpful and welcome to the Bike Forums. This is a great place to learn and share what you know.

Where I am I rarely see women riding bikes that have a "womans frame". However, I do see alot of normal looking men riding them. It's transporation. That is a mixte frame, though, so you can wear a cool "WWII French resistance" style beret and adopt an accent ... carry a bottle of wine and a loaf of bread ... just kidding! BTW, many of the new bike frames for men have some seriously sloping frames that are reminiscent...IMO...of the old style women's frames.

I think mixte frames are the coolest. I do admit some hesitance to ride one though, because if forced to choose; it's a girls bike.

But they are sleek; classy and comfortable. They are a good value too. They are in the minority (cool score) and they are usually not trashed (flip score). Great bike!! Ride it and be proud!!
