How to Remove Brake Hoods

Hi, I have a set of shimano Dura Ace 7402 brake levers with near perfect hoods on them. The crome surface showing is corroded so I want to safely remove the hoods, refinish the chrone surface, then put the hoods back on. How do I remove them without damaging them or causing them to split? What about installing them too? They are in excellent shape with no splits but they are about 25 years old....

Thanks!

remove the levers from the handle bars and remove from the back of the levers, same thing for
installing them. Some soapy water helps the hoods to slide over the levers, just don't go overboard
with the water.
