Peugeot Super Competition front derailleur???
 

Well, I finally came across a decent quality fork (not the one pictured) for the Peugeot Super Competition I found a couple of years ago. Now all I need is the proper front derailleur. I am assuming it to be Simplex but I have no idea what model it would be or what it looks like.

The derailleur bolts to the seat tube. The one pictured is incorrect, obviously, and I am hoping to find what I need. The frame is in pretty nice shape and I have always wanted a Super competition.

Does anyone have a picture or description (model or name) of the front derailleur that I need. Here are a couple of pictures to help. Also, I think I asked this question before but I could not find the thread so please forgive me for repeating myself myself.

I am not really sure about this, but if that's a circa 1980 issue, a Simplex LJA102 would be the appropriate match for the SX410 rear.

Did the Super Competitions come as a complete build or were they sold as framesets and built locally? The one I recently sold belonged to the owner of a lbs who had it built up in the shop.

"Super Competition" was a name Peugeot used (temporarily) to catalog their (built up) PX10, as in this 1980 catalog illustration below:

Thanks for the help and I will give some serious thought to the Ebay offering, but not until I figure out the shipping cost. Heck, the derailleur costs more than I paid for most of my bikes but I would really like to put the Super Competition on the road as my French bike, even if it makes the Moto B jealous.

I would post an ISO in the trade thread. That's how I acquired the fd in the above picture. they aren't too common, but they're out there. You should be able to pick up a decent one for under $25, or trade.

Probably lacking the proper mounting plate for the Simplex dropout.

As noted, the Simplex FD with the French style braze-on mount is still easy to find, with at least a couple of them on sale at eBay, used or NOS at any time. You should be able to land an NOS example for about $35 bucks. It would be a good idea to get a spare one though in case the prices on the thing would start to go up substantially as had been happening with a lot of French components lately. The speculators will only need to see a hint of demand and they will instantly raise the price to something ridiculous as the now becoming typical "$150 BIN" prices we've been seeing out there for all sorts of French C&V NOS components.
Mavic also made FDs with similar French style, braze-on mounts, but their design tends to place the FD a bit too high on Peugeot frames at it's lowest setting (I think Mavic had Gitane Pro team frames in mind when they designed their mount). Only consder it for your Peugeot if you have a 53T big ring........or bigger.

As a disclaimer, I have two of these and am very fond of them.
Of course, I paid 2 and 300 bucks for mine. Regardless, put it on
the road with whatever front you have. A full chrome fork would
look pretty authentic as a replacement.
