Pat swtiched to Brev in 1978, along with the CPSC changes.

I have a mismatched set (i.e. 1 Brev, 1 Pat). That, among other things is why I haven't tried to flog them yet. Should I offer them individually, or try to match them up first? At least now I have a better idea of what I have, thanks to Picchio Special!

What he said, except the change occurred in mid-1977, and they used up all of the remaining "Patent" rings and hardware, so it took a little while for all the bits to change to "Brev."

There is one place in the Campagnolo lineup where "Brev." came first, fwiw: on the brake caliper pivot bolts. I have no idea why....

Yes, flat (I presume you mean brake-caliper q/r levers). Another "CPSC-mandated change" boondoggle....

Edit:

If you mean flat crank-arm dustcaps, those were much later than the standard type. 1986-1987, I think, or maybe even more recently than that...?

I have a bike with one of each. Funny, one cannot tell when viewing from one side that there is a problem.

You know, it's funny - folks that are "restoring" old bikes always seem to want to find crankarm dustcaps, but back in the day, we generally threw or gave them away, because they were "too heavy!"

I also have a miss matched set. If anyone has an odd set and would like to correct it either way is fine with me. Pat with Pat, or Brev with Brev. Send me a PM.

I should have mentioned that was a bike I recently purchased. They will come off soon. I have a number of pairs sitting in a small box. I recall someone being able to tap the ends of a handlebar and thread those caps in to be reused as bar end plugs.

I have three PAT all Steel and
two BREV steel bolt Aluminum Alloy Nut and the alloy nuts do not seem to fit the PAT bolts at least I didn't want to try to make them fit...

I always liked to keep them, but yeah, back in the day they were tossed!
