Huffy 626 - Questions about years made and if anyone has catalog scans
Hi all,
Before I'm killed for owning a Huffy 626, I was curious if anyone know what years they were "made" (HAH!) or if any online librarian has a copy of a catalog with the bike in a picture. I've turned my bike into an urban singlespeed with track bicycle qualities (HAH! - AGAIN!). It's a lot of fun to ride around town on and not fear someone scratching my paint.
Let's not get into the "it's a terrible bike". I ride it because I saved it from a dumpster and I could never do this to my Bianchi.
Started life as:
45 minutes with a hacksaw (cut thumb open) and a hammer, I turned it into:
New Parts? Yes please!:

The few Huffy I've seen have had a serial number format that is relatively simple to decode.

Nothing wrong with re-purposing a bike. If it works for your mission, then it's all good. I just finished helping my son rebuild a Magna MTB as an SS winter commuter. Total cost was ~25, including a set of clip on fenders so he doesn't get totally mud covered on the way to school.

I would say yes, i had to reweld and install drop bolts for the brake locations on the frame. Not even extra long reach calipers reached my 27" alloy wheels. Insane trying to get this bike to stop!

im actually upcyxling a 626 at this momment
I picked up a made in Dayton OH. Huffy 626 last week at yard sale for 4 bucks the one piece crank was a little bent. I put a torch and rubber mallet to it good as new im touching up what paint I can and clear coating it and regreassing all bearings and new break pads and chain. I almost put a 44 tooth in front and made it a 6 speed but rather keep original bar's are super slim. The shimano derailura in this bike are superb for a vintage bike. Dint let anyone bash you for restoring a actually nice bike no that I've ride mine and I ride bike's that range in the thousands of dollars. I have 4 upcycled bike's now working on 5. Side projects tho.
