I know right now prices and interest seem to be a bit down from what I can tell. I'd say early spring would be the best time of year, but I'm far from an expert.

From what I've seen/experienced, right before and during TdF......
Lots of C&V cyclist get the itch for getting back their C&V bikes on the road (to re-live their biking "glorious" days??:D) because of the TdF related excitement, so they all start looking for parts to fix them, and sometimes the TdF revs up the emotions, so cost is not as much of an issue as any other time......

That much probably depends on whether the part is going on a "driver" or a "show bike." ;)

I sell all year round. The last few months have been a let down, possible recession related or winter?

As its so unpredictable I tend to either start at a high price and/or buy it now.

I only have experience with CL/ other classified listings.

Springtime in Northern California, there is a huge spike in demand. You might be able to get great value for your quality vintage parts, but buyers are out there all times of year, depending on their needs. More mechanic types looking for a deal during the bad-weather months, probably. I think that you'd usually end up able to sell at the price you want, but it might take longer and you'd have fewer buyers to choose from.

I think that the biggest differences where I am from would have to do with weather. Don't sell during the monsoon :)

:lol:From now till May when everybody is done spending their tax returns on your goods....

i don't think the time of year has an impact on vintage component sales - the folks who buy vintage components are generally serious hobbyists who are tinkering / building / hunting all year. Complete bikes, on the other hand, typically sell best in the spring and summer.

From now until May is the best time to sell vintage bicycle parts! For vintage bicycles, it will be from mid March until the end of May, at the latest.

I have watched trends for years and, believe it or not, one of the largest vintage bicycle markets on Earth, has only half a season for riding. With the approach of riding season, interest goes way up and those dreamed about builds suddenly move to the tops of to do lists.

At least, that's the way I see it.

I have seen so much variation on components on ebay, as well as high end bikes, that I am not sure time of year matters very much. I think it matters more on the mid grade to lower stuff.

Now on local sales (like C/L), huge drop off in interest during the winter. Now is the time to BUY, May through the end of August is the time to sell.

I see a lot of back to school college student business, typically in August. After that, sales quiet down a lot.

I tend to agree with this. I saw some pretty large "Lance effects" when he was still racing in the TdF.... It's also mid-Summer in the USA at that point in the year, so that helps too, perhaps....
