Crank for Schwinn World Sport 1982 HELP

Hey guys, this is my first post to this forum and I'm hoping to get some help out of it. I have an old Schwinn World Sport I had bought from craigslist a couple months back. Now I realize how heavy it is and I want to replace the crank. I just don't know parts so well, so i don't know the size the frame would take. I was planning on getting this crankset: https://www.ebikestop.com/shimano_r45...PARTNER=GOOGPS
I know the arm length is correct, i just don't know about anything else. I could post pictures of the bike if it'll be helpful, thanks in advance!

See what the listing says: Bottom bracket not included. By the time you add the Octalink BB, you will be dropping quite a bit into that bike.

Your Schwinn will handle a variety of BB, nothing really unique about it. 1983 was the first year for a cromoly frame on your bike, so with a 1982, chasing weight savings is somewhat limited.

1982 WS was a 34 pound bike, with steel rims, high ten steel frame, steel seat post, steel handlebars (everything on this list is heavy). Better off enjoying the bike for what it is, and save up to upgrade bikes. A lot cheaper to just buy a nice, much lighter weight bike (and sell your WS), than to upgrade the WS.

For the price of that crank and a bottom bracket, added to what you could get for your WS, you would be way ahead financially to just step up in bike. Realize replacing bb takes a pile of tools (you have to have tools that fit the old style bb to remove it, and totally different tools to install the new one. Plus a crank puller, and so on. And most likely a new chain, possibly a new freewheel.

+1..............I agree with wrk101 100%...........shaving weight on this bike will cost you more than it's worth unless you have a substantial parts bin to draw from.

Thanks wrk101, I was thinking about it and decided not to get new parts or anything. I was also deciding on new rims but I love the chrome ones the Schwinn was included with. I ended up buying a 1984 Peugeot for 40 and ima make it into a fixed gear, I think the frame would be perfect since its pretty light. Thanks for the help and quick responses!
