My 1970's Roberts
I have been chipping away at my nails for almost a week since I origionally saw this listed on ebay. I was very excited when on the closing morning no one had bid. I had left to go to a meeting and when I arrived back I saw someone bid. Feeling confident that someone had tossed a lowball bid not hoping truly to win, ok praying. I looked when I arrived home, then before I went to sleep. I tossed and turned all night and awoke that I won and only 3 dollars over what the starting bid was!
I am happy this is my size and a wonderful addition. There is not much on the net other than Charles built frame and opened his own shop When he passed away in the 80s, his son Chas took over and is continuing the tradition of making finely crafted frames.
Build wise I do not have the funds to fully build it up as it deserves with a nice Campy group, but I am going to use my either my Ultegra 6500 group from my Cannondale or my Shimano 600 group and stay with a 6 speed drive train.
So here are the ebay pics.

Nice frame, looks like you got a great deal! I was watching this too, mainly interested because I also own a Roberts and I haven't seen many of them go by. The seller said he thought this one was columbus, mine is Reynolds 531.

Is there a serial number on this anywhere? I couldn't find one on mine. I've also been looking for (and not finding) more information, I've e-mailed Roberts cycles but haven't heard back from them yet.

6 speed, definately. The frame looks well used, but not abused - so a little touch-up and some vintage parts will suit it well.

Thanks I am very excited!!

The PO stated the fork is stamped with the Columbus stamp so that the frame may be as well. I was reading the thread on your bike, VERY nice btw, and was reading the part about dating the frame by the drop outs. I cannot tell if mine are forged or not but I am pretty dumb when it comes to Campy anyway. I did some Googling but without some better pics of my bike my eyes cannot tell the subtle differences. I'll have to wait until I get my grubbies on it.
I am still up in the air on what to hang on it. I'd love a vintage Campy group but alas I am too poor maybe when I sell my Allez frame and now my Cannondale too(?) maybe. we'll see.
I just want a comfy bike that I can ride for long periods for now. Most of my bikes have been too big or too small. 50, 54, 56, This one being a 52 should hit the sweet spot. I cant wait until I get it home. XD
