Centurion Accordo

I found a 1986 Centurion Accordo S on a somewhat local cl. I am wondering if it would be a decent upgrade from my 1983 Centurion Sport DLX? It has the frame specs that I have been looking for such as water bottle mounts, downtube shifter mounts, deraileur hanger & made for 700c wheels. It also is bigger frame which would much better than being scrunched like I am now. The only real problem is it doesn't have a front wheel but those are easy enough to get a hold of.

Should I get this bike or wait to find something better?

The 1986 Accordo is a good, entry level model. It's roughly equivalent to the Sport DLX but with 700C wheels, more brazed-on fittings and indexed shifting. However, more importantly, it better suits your needs and fit. If it's a good deal, I'd grab it, ride it while I'm searching out something better and flip the Sport DLX. If you do find something better you can always flip the Accordo and maybe even make a little money on it. If you do acquire the Accordo, please add it to the forum's Centuriuon Serial Number Database thread. TIA.

The guy wants $100 for it but it has been on cl for awhile. I'm not sure if that is a good price or way overpriced.

Sounds like a good price. Here in SoCal, anything Centurion is at least 200 with Ironmans going for 350 and over 400. Nuts huh?

That's hard to say, without knowing the condition, outside of the missing wheel, which is probably why it's been sitting. Part of the equation will be be how much it's going to cost you to replace the wheel. Also, if the wheel is missing, you're going to want to make sure the frok and/or frame isn't bent. Beg or borrow a 700C front wheel to take with you, so you can check it properly and take it for a test ride.

Well the bike is now mine. I talked him down to 80. Everything looks to be in really good shape. It just needs a good cleaning. I will post some pics tomorrow evening.

There, that's better.

Welcome to the forum.
Don't mind triple-b, he's just ridden his Centurion through the desert too many times.

I picked up an 86 Accordo RS a few years ago. I rides nice, so I gave it to my sister in law. $100 is not a bad price. Tange Infinity tubing is better that hi-ten.

Here is the bike with a spare tire I had and the front wheel off of my Raleigh.

Today I went to a local bike coop and found me a front wheel. While I was there I picked this up.

Good for you!

To be honest though, I would have upgraded to a Lemans RS with cromo stays and fork. Maybe better components too. Any upgrade's good though, so congrats on the Accordo.

Here it is all cleaned up.

Kanegon - I would have liked something higher up the food chain but they don't show up that often around here.

Post it when you have good pictures. I started my foray into road bikes with an Accordo, and although I later flipped it for something that fit better, it was the first bike i completely tore down and rebuilt and ill always remember it. Welcome to classic and vintage.
