Wow - Team Champion frame goes for large sum

I was really willing to pay for this frame as these are quite rare and it was my size but wow! It went way over my limit. Rootboy I think that Team Champion of yours is a keeper!

I wanted to bid, but I just had a bad feeling about the seller. I asked a question and he was pretty curt with me.

Wow! It is nice to see Moto's getting some respect, but I suspect it is more of a couple bidders who had to have it.

It seems like everyone of us was following that one.

I have to wonder what it might have fetched on a Saturday night, after the bars close!

To be honest, I wasn't shocked. There are precious few of those floating about.

I think I recognize the garage door

That's some seriously good money - not that the frame doesn't look great, with just the right amount of patina. But it's big, and of course, French

(ducks and runs away....)

I wonder if that serial number had anything to do with it (my, that's a lot of 3s)?

I resemble that remark

Come to think of it, ever since someone tried hanging me on eBay over one of my clarifications (regarding a Huret nut which wasn't used on the later Duopar I was selling), I started giving very limited answers in the fashion described by BlueDevil. It may simply be a seller protecting himself from smart-arse eBayers.

Ebay auction for Team Champion frame
Yes, they are not common, but that's just plain nutty. When I first saw that, I chose not to even officially 'watch' it as it is so, uh, patiné.... Note that all of the bidders are essentially noobs, from my perspective, anyways. Nothing like the power of Molteni(ish) Orange, I guess. C'est la vie chez eBay.

I MIGHT have offered $300 for that. It's pretty...but there are a lot of frames I'd want before that one @ $1,300. That's the beauty of eBay...everyone gets to value things as they chose.

I guess so BD63. Auchencrow was nice enough to alert me to the auction, otherwise I would have missed it. I have to agree with everyone here except, excuse me my good friend....Auchencrow ... I think this is a true anomaly. I know these frames are scarce, but still. I suppose it could be chalked up to two bidders going to war yet again. I have mixed feelings seeing this go so high. I have one, of course, and love it, but that frame just isn't worth that much. Ah well. There's just no accounting for what will happen on ebay.

Rootboy...if you don't mind unsolicited advice, I've been where you are right now. Sell it. There are always other bikes out there that you will love (for less money). Unless this was the ONE AND ONLY bike you most dreamed about, strike while the iron is hot. Toss yours up for $800 with a link to that auction, take the money and run. I did that with my Raleigh Pro and don't regret it at all.

I've never regretted selling a bike...there are always other bikes. If it even enters your head that you MIGHT want to sell it, SELL IT! If it's a true must have keeper, you'll never even think about it.

I'm confused here: It's OK for you to value someones item at less than 25% of it's worth.... But when people suggest that your friends bikes aren't worth 10k, it's rude and insulting?

Fender, nice sale on that. Congratulations.

Ebay is funny that way. Next week someone could sell the same frame and get half that, or less. I've experienced both sides as a seller, albeit on much lower value items. As a buyer, there's really nothing I want badly enough to make this kind of thing happen.

My assumption is that 1300 is more than my 1978 Team Champion is worth, and by a large margin. And mine is a complete bike, in better condition. But it's not orange.

What didn't you understand Roger? I didn't suggest it was worth $300...I suggested that was what it was worth to ME. Get the difference? I have NO CLUE what that Motobecane's market value is because it's not the kind of bike I'm into (French or 70s). 31 flavors. My general impression of Motobecanes was that it was a soft market. Someone bought it for $1300...that was its value on that transaction and my comment came AFTER IT WAS SOLD and didn't interfere with a member's sale. Most everyone else, including the OP, seems to think selling price was out of line with typical market price. I'd chalk it partially up to Kurt's marketing, photos and reputation personally. Currently the bike isn't even owned by a member.

I'm truly puzzled at your logic, but am just chalking it up to your issue

A more cynical man than me would just assume that you disagreed with me before and decided to snipe about it in a different thread a week later...just in a way that made no sense and wasn't analogous. Fortunately I'm not a cynical man

PS - it was Kurt's sale.
