Schwinn Sports Tourer Bottom Bracket
 

Have a '72 Sports Tourer. Unsure of the correct size for the bottom bracket on this bike. Recommendations for a direct replacement? May even go single speed with this frame.

What crank? I think that has more to do with the spindle length. My nervar double takes a 117 spindle. I think the sports tourer came with a triple though?

The '72 Sports Tourer had a TA double chainring crank with 54-40T. The spindle length is 4 1/2" long (114mm).

The 72 Sports Tourer I briefly had used a Nervar crank and BB, a double.

Interesting. I wonder if they used both T-A and Nervar that year. Here's the Nervar crank P-A catalog page. It was also a 54-40T double. I think I see 117 on the spindle, so mkeller234 is probably correct.

Nervar cranks take an ISO taper, so that does make it slightly tougher. I know think Campy and Stronglight spindles work. Miche Primato cartridges are ISO taper and reasonably but the longest I can find is 115. Maybe it would work with a spacer?

That's a Chicago built Schwinn. My 1975 Schwinn LeTour. Named, just plain LeTour back then was made by Panasonic. Before the better (Built Schwinn's),, came along. I always like those Rando Style handlebars. Me as a customer and lifetime bike mechanic, sure hoped the were better built Schwinns.
Hi Scooper. The Car museum here in Brookline Ma. Used to have a classic bike show, with several classes. I went to one on a Sunday. Was $10. But the Sunday Car shows, have got very popular. I guess, they started with one "orphan" car class a year. Now the seem to have an Orphan car, or related. every single Sunday in August. Like a a Nash Metropolitan? The engine the rest of the car, were built in England. Lived after the Nash and Hudson merge. Last built Hudson, Lasted until JFK was President. But gas was cheap. cheers

BB cups on the Sports Tourers are standard English/ISO/JIS threading.
