Recommendations for replacment 26 x1-3/8" rims

I bought a vintage Raleigh Sports bicycle that needs replacement wheels. The stock rims are chromed steel and I would be most interested in alloy rims of the same size, style and number of spoke 36 holes.

The best replacement rim is the polished, Sun CR-18 in 26 x 1 3/8 (590).

+1 And get them polished too! At Tree Fort Bikes, they are the same price as non-polished and look much nicer atmo.

I think these are Sun CR-18, correct? Does one of these wheels have a built-in generator or are both hubs have brakes? I think I would like this setup only with 36 spokes.

They both have drum brakes and I think the front hub has a dynamo, though I can't say for sure without seeing the other side if the front hub.

    Just this past weekend I built up a 590 CR-18 on a S-A X-FDD dyno/brake hub for a client's Raleigh Sports.

This is a great combination and an exceptional front hub for any city commuter bike IMHO.

Yes--polished 36H; those are 27". Front hub is XL-FDD (dynamo with 90mm drum brake). Rear is X-RD5, 5 speed with 70 mm drum.

Warning: even with the modern hubs with aluminum shells, these things are heavy as hell. But they appeal to my fantasies of bullet-proof but tweedy elegance during the zombie apocalypse.

+ a few more on the CR-18's. I have 7 more on the way for wheel builds. I use them in the 590, 700c, 559 and the 406 when I can find them. Currently have 3 bikes running them.
