A Coppi and a Legnano: both have chrome in very sad shape, so good candidates for blasting and a single color. Quote was 120 to 180 each, depending on color. They say they're experienced in fine bicycle frames: blasting carefully, masking threads, using a thin coat. My first experience with powdercoat...

If there's any pitting in visible areas, you might want to specify that they use filler to level out the surface (especially with metallic finishes.)
My Santana has a few blemishes that I would rather were filled, but I didn't realize it would be an issue until after I had the work done.
Good luck!

I had an industrial place do it, cleaned the frames myself with aircraft stripper and a wire wheel. (CroMo is amazingly hard) Masked it myself.
They are not "expert" in bikes, but they do them.
Came out fine, total cost was $40.

I didn't say they were "expert" with bikes, but they are experienced with bikes. I went through all my concerns and got good answers. Ah, I didn't leave the Coppi. It has some rust through the chrome, guy said it would not turn out smooth; fair enough, I'd rather have the truth than be disappointed after the fact. Apparently there's no filler or they are not setup to do it, the piece has to be conductive to powder coat.
For the Legnano I chose a candy purple for an 80s disco twist on the lime green Legnano color. I'll take another frame down there when I pick the first up. If it looks good I'll do another. $180. for frame and fork, silver base with candy over.

Oops, I should have said experienced.
No worries, I am just amazed at the range in powder coating costs. I had quotes from $200 to the $40 I paid.
In the end, it is a good finish and I think you will be pleased. Highly durable.

As I told the guy when I left, I'm more interested in having it done well than cheap and/or fast.
Certainly many of the bicycle painters are experts, but its just gotten too rich for me.

I had my Viscount done by a local guy who started up an operation in his garage after learning the business working for a large, local aircraft refurb outfit, just a one-man operation but super spiffy work for $120 including the media blasting. I've got an old low-end Frejus that has a bit too much serious patina so I'm considering having him work on that one too. I've been told by a large metal fab/powder shop in town that the powder won't adhere to any kind of synthetic filler material but the garage guy says it can be done. I'm anxious to see pictures.

I have used Maas for a Bmx cruiser frame/fork, it came out excellent. They do frames for Mikkelsen and many others.
