that came out fantastic! The color seems to be pretty consistent? (I know it's clear but the texture of surface causes some color)

I don't think it would look right on just any bike, but on yours it's fantastic.
Only now I think you should rebuild your wheels with gold nipples.

Pretty cool! Now, imagine how good it would look on a fillet brazed frame. Someone should do a Viscount!

What wheels are you running for your 16.4lb race weight D?
My Modern Steel bike weighs about a pound more than yours and I would have to do some pretty exotic stuff to lose a pound off of it.

As pictured, it's 17.3 with the clinchers. Drops nearly a pound with my race wheels, which are DT 240's laced to vintage track rims (Mavic Record du Monde de L'Heure) in a 28h variety, DT Revolutions front and back. Alloy nipples all the way around. The wheelset weighs just under 1200g and these ones weigh 1560.

Yeah, to my surprise they just blasted it. Apparently the coater took a very keen liking to my frame and tried to make the entire thing very consistent.

16.4 to 17.3 lbs???
Really? What kind of scale are you using? If you'd said it was 19lbs I'd have been a little surprised.

Nice! My wheels are around 1450ish, with some lightweight tubulars I could get well under 17. Unlike you, I do not race and have no need for those kind of wheels.
Your Soma is great, and like you said can be a life long bike if you want it to be.

That looks great!!!
They're not far from me and my MB-2 has terrible paint. I'd like to try a brushed finish like on a Bombadil I saw at Rivendell.

True, though a lot of brass shows on filet brazed frames, so you'd have to like it. I would like it!

That look is really unique, DReitz, I like the results. The whole build looks nice in a minimalist way, in engineering we call it simple elegance. Now, go find the padding, for that saddle, you lost!

I'm gonna do that clear when I get the right project--that Soma is wicked cool. As I've said many places, I think that 'brass' color on the RB-T is one of my favorites. I also had a great result with powder, matching the Imron pewter metallic on a Trek project that I'm STILL working on. Can't tell from this photo, but you can read the 'Suntour' on the dropouts, and that's pretty good for a PC job. And my local guy shoots clear, also....
