Grail bike chase just came to an end.

While I am not coming out empty handed I am not getting my grail bike either. I was chasing what I thought was a 1985 Fat Chance. Got into a bidding war and I am now paying double what the seller was asking. The bike after all was no Fat Chance but had all the signs bullet shaped tubes, Seat stay roller cams, etc. I am still trying to figure out what it is. I will post more details and ask for your help later tonight or tomorrow after I pick it up. Despite having to outbid another CLer it was still cheaper than five lapdances and a drink with Mindy down at the strip club.

I've got a feeling though that its either something good or a real cheap knock off. Anyway the brakes tell me its a 1985. The seller said the bike moved from California 20+ years ago. I hardly ever see bikes with seat stay roller cams.

Bidding wars suck. Especially CL wars that started with a single firm price.

Thats true, I can't know for sure, he said he was on the phone with other guy (or so he claimed). I ended up not taking the bike. I gave the seller $20 and told him sell it to the other guy. Also apologized for wasting his time. It was a really old Mountain bike but it was not Fat Chance Kicker. It did not have have press in BB or FD cable guide above bb. While the seat tubes did appear to be bullets they were round early chances were more akin to a sharpen pencil point IMHO. Bike was painted at least three times I wish I knew what it was.

If he misrepresented it I don't think you should have paid him anything.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out. I love me some Fat City! Not sure where you are located, but they pop up pretty regularly on CL here in Boston. If you see one, I'd be happy to check it out and facilitate within reason (I don't have a car during the week because my wife commutes to work outside the city).

I'm not sure if this is your size or the year you desire, but for a pretty penny, another Fat Chance is being offered in my backyard.

That sounds like a really nice example. Although it is way above what I'd like to spend but I'll ask for pics to see is its worth the money. If I have to come out of pocket it'll have to be pristine. He does say less than 150 miles. Lets hope they weren't 150 hellish miles.

Hey Thin Man,
I reached out to the guy in your neck of the woods. It is a mint example but for $1200 it would need to be color and size. I like the loud late 80's early 90's colors. Some fluorescent green or such as they did with the custom paint jobs.

Ahh, color and size, such is the story of my life right now too.
I did see that the owner reposted it on CL today.
Either way, it gives you a glimmer of hope for the next Fat Chance listing!
