Raleigh Colt(?) decals

Can anyone help me out with when Raleigh used these decals?

IMG_0635

It's a colt (I think) but the decals don't match the 1970's pictures I have seen

According to The Headbadge that is a 1969-197 "road" decal. Got pictures of the whole bike? I have two Colts a 1971 and a 1973 and I don't think that is on either one of them.

There isn't a model name tag left on it.

The Colt name was moved to the juvenile line a bit later, on the 24" wheeled bikes. I am looking for one of those especially in a 3 speed/
I think this one dates between '68 and '70.
IfI remember this was a budget model, kind of brought in w/o a true model name.

Road bike typically drop bar. The pictures are interesting, no heron crank? The white head tube is typical of early 60's bikes. What is the rear hub date? It is usually stamped number, something like 68 7 which would be July of 1968.

The blue one is the 71 the green a 73, both are Colts. What is the seat tube measurement?

It's a three speed, but has 26" wheels. The frame size (BB to top of seat lug) is 21" I have a 1972 Superbe and the frame size is about the same. The Superbe has the dynamo lighting, this one has the pump and pump hooks. The paint is in rough shape, but I am taking it for powder coating because it is a comfortable ride and the frame and fork are not bent. I have the original 3 speed hub for this bike (in fact, I think it is all original parts except the saddle), but it isn't dated

It is a SA hub, but no date and it is plain compared to the stripes or lines or whatever on the Superbe hub. This one is just polished metal, the oil cap and the Sturmery Archer logo that matches (or is pretty close) the SA logo on the Superbe hub. The hub was the first place I checked to try and date it.

AFAIK the Colt never came with 24" wheels, that would be the Space Rider. Every Colt I have ever come across has the 26" wheels with a 18" frame on the step through, the diamond frame version was a "camel" back that was a 18"/20".

So, if the Colt frame was 18", does that make this a Sports? I thought they had the word "Sports" on the chain guard and down tube? The down tube just says Raleigh, no model name anywhere on this bike.

What year is your Superbe? I have one of those too

I have one bike with a non dated hub and it was built in Malaysia, appears to be about a 1971/72. It you have a 21" frame and pump pegs that is not a Colt, that makes it some version of Sports.

The two tone paint job is unusual, I would suspect some import market like Canada, Ireland or ???

I wouldn't powder coat that bike until I found out more about it. The color scheme makes it a bit unusual. I do agree that the saddle is not original.

My Superbe is a 1972. This frame is labeled "Made in England." The serial number in on the seat lug. It's seven numbers with no letters. I haven't seen any picture of a sports model with a two tone paint job and no heron in the crank. The down tube logo matches the one on the chain guard, and it has original looking white grips. I guess it could be a frankenbike out of a blue sports and a white... sports, with a newer model Colt crankset. I have seen that crankset in old catalogs on the Colt or smaller bikes The bike is worn, but it's worn evenly so I hadn't really considered that it could have been a previous rebuild.

It's a little academic, because part of why I pick this frame is that it is scuffed enough that no one will care if I powder coat it in a horrible not Raleigh color. I was just interested because I haven't seen those decals before.

Most of the decals are scratched up, the paint is BAD. REALLY BAD. I can't see this bike being a good candidate for a restore. I'm Canadian so it may just be the Canadian model?

In 1972, the men's sports came in white and the womens came in sky blue. Maybe some couple switched fenders and chain guard to make a his and hers set? The decals look right:
https://www.kurtkaminer.com/TH_raleigh_cat_72.html

The crank is still wrong and the pedals match my Superbe, but that would explain the two tone.

ETA: no it wouldn't because the head tube is white, even underneath the head badge that I removed with care so it could be replaced later if needed

My Superbe is a 72 also, that was one of my "grail" bikes. Ride the fool out of it.

I have seen a two tone Superbe from ~1962

Doesn't explain the white headtube.

Interesting! Mine is different. It has a 1972 hub:

Taken last summer before I learned that you always point your bike the other way for pictures. The decals on it are the same type as on your Colt

The Superbe hub is October (I think), so maybe it is a 1973 bike with a 1972 hub?

That is a distinct probability. My Superbe actually has a late 1971 hub on it.

With the white fenders I suspect you have a Canadian model Sports of some sort. I have seen several example of CN market bikes with the white fenders.

Absolutely! I hope you are going back with the two tone, that really sets that bike apart from the crowd.
