Interesting Bianchi on the 'Bay

THE Bianchi Centenario with the first C-Record. Not a Centenario, but THE Centenario built for the Milan Bike Show 1985. And not just first gen C-Record, but the FIRST C-Record gruppo. At least according to the seller (didnt't the first C-Records have Cobaltos not Deltas?). Still, this one is cool.

Bianchi Girl... looks like your size too

They had one of these last week in mint condition that went for 2500.00. This one is rough compared to the other, but it must be beautiful with a black nickel finish.

if that really is the FIRST everything it says it is, i feel like i would try to sell it to bianchi. i'm sure they have a mini-museum somewhere that would love to have this.

Beautiful bike. Love C-record components, but that is definitely a museum piece!

Actually that one last week was faaaar from mint condition. the seller took pics of the best parts of the bike, but if you looked closely, like i did. lots of scratches...come corrosion, and the finish looked a little more than worn. I was tempted to get that one but the seller got more than my offer.

Cobaltos were introduced to fill the timeframe when the first Deltas were being redesigned (internally). So Deltas came first.

That is cool. wondering if the new owner would want to re paint that some how because the splotching does look baaaad. As far as parting out? I dont think there would be many people wanting to pay much money for those parts unless they want them for their centenario...sure wouldnt put em on a colnago!! There were around 1500 of those made so they are not super rare but are very nice. I do think that the one on ebay now is like..one of a kind since it is supposed to be THE centenario...my prediction is around 3500 dollars (sticking my neck out on this one) because of condition

I didn't look that close because I knew I wasn't going to go all out in a final seconds bid frenzy plus I was a bit skeptical of the seller, but hey they are very nice looking bikes. I imagine they'll start popping up on ebay now that a bar has been set. For that kind of money and from what you say I'd expect better shape than both examples. I would like to hear what it turns out like with the new owner, maybe he is from the forum.

I could see why that could give a Bianchi fan a stroke just looking at it!
Could this be one of BG's "Holy Grail" bikes??

Does anyone know what would need to be done to fix the finish? I'm not familiar with nickel so is it a matter of just buffing it out or would the frame need to be refinished somehow?

?? 2650 is the current bid, not the BIN. I agree though, the finish should keep the price down on what is otherwise a very special bike.

FWIW, the first C-Record groups we got at Trek in 1985 had Delta brakes.

I still think the one that sold the other day had a better finish than this and sold cheaper. No one knows if the finish could be salvaged?

So.... it went for $3150 + $60 shipping. For THE Centenario and the FIRST C-Record. If I were the buyer, I'd already be in touch with Cycleart about restoring the finish...

I would certainly love to have one of these but not at that price. I wouls be almost as happy with one of the '89-91 bikes that came with the SLX frame and Chrous or Athena. there is a '89 Mondiale in TX buging me at $1400 but it is too small.

I am not quite certain what the finish actually is. the catalog says it is a " Black Nickel " which I assumed to be an electro plated finish like a chrome or more like that black chrome Univega used alot.

Also as to the brakes.... the '85 catalogs does show Deltas but the bike is also listed in the '86 catalog (leftovers I guess) with Super Record, C* Record pantographed levers {Bianchi uses a star in the catalog where I put the *** Funny no mention is made of pantographing on the derailleurs.

your right..but this one did have the much more desirable delta brakes and the super rare jersey and the fact that it was the first centenario made....although that is a big question mark. I wonder if these were on any of the pro teams back in the day or if they were simply made for the general "rich" population to enjoy. I kind of like the X4 Argentin bike better myself but I would not refuse a centenario

I think they were just aimed at uber rich Freds and Fredettes.

I settled for a faux X4 but still with Argentin paint
