there must be a trick to this FD.......

It seems that I must squeeze the tube strap around the down tube while capturing the little threaded block between the "feet" of the strap. While doing that I must position the FD over the strap and threaded block; insert and start the hex head bolt...

surely there is a step or trick that I am not seeing.........any/all help and ideas are welcomed....

actually.....while composing the pic; it occurred to me how it goes together. You assemble the threaded block and bolt (the block can only fit the cavity in the FD one direction) and it snaps over the strap; once it's placed around the down tube. Very ingenious!!!!!!

Yes you've got it and no there's no other step or trick that I know. Others may chime in here. It's a little awkward but doable. The hard part is refraining from over tightening the nut and snapping the band. My informal method is to tighten it oh-so-slowly until the FD won't move and then give it a final tiny smidge of a turn. Of course you have to tighten and loosen it a few times to get the angle and height just right too. Suntour didn't knock it out of the park with that design although they'll good looking derailleurs IMO.

edit...yeah...forgot about the snap together part.

That's the simple one. I believe Suntour makes one with a bolt inside a bolt, or something like that.

Use the FORCE...isn't Always the best answer when it comes to bike tinkering (though sometimes the BIG hammer comes out!)

These are fun arn't they.

Now that you have it on try and figure a way to turn it into a top pull design.

Actually it's a good design; for assembly that is.........it snaps on and all you do is tighten it up. For dis & re-assembly it sucks. I was lucky that the threaded block did not fly away when I took it off. It's pretty much spring loaded.

And you need this to make it a top pull........
