You know the expression, I don't know art, but I know what I like.
That is the sense I had, when reading the Asian Vs European bike thread.
It's been unusually cold here, and I have a cold, so I only got to put about
maybe 30 miles on it total, so far, and most of that pretty flat.

Of everything I currently own and ride, I find it most comparable in feeling
to this Bianchi Pro, also made in Japan:

The Bianchi is labeled Ishiwata 022, but the geometry and sizes are very similar.

Nice, neutral feeling, go where you point it bike. It doesn't seem as sensitive
to rider weight distribution as many things I have, so it will be interesting to see
how it feels climbing, out of the saddle.

Otherwise, I'm very pleased to have another Schwinnasonic to ride around. These
usually fly under the radar around here, pricewise, and this was no exception.

I'm a huge Suntour fan, and almost everything on this in terms of components is
Sutour Superbe. I'm also a fan of the the great era of mid 80's Japanese production
bikes, so i am grateful for the opportunity to try this one out. I'll update after I swap
out the cable housings for plastic lined black ones and retape the bars, and maybe
log a few hundred miles for a better idea of it.

S'lovely, 3alarmer. Is that the Peloton that was in the Craigslist-Sacramento/Davis ad that Chicago posted?
Either way, many safe and happy miles to you on your beauty.

Yes, that's the one. It turns out I know the guy who was selling it,
and after a while, he cut me an irresistible deal................Thanks.

Gratulations on the sweet deal! Small world.
Finally moving forward on the baby Peloton build.
Just won an auction for the 7803 Dura Ace triple crankset. Also have the derailleurs, pedals, bottom bracket ready to go.
Only need the seat, post, bars, stem, cables, & brifters. Slowly but surely...

Little update on the beloved GF's build. It was rainy & cold this weekend, so we enjoyed indoor activities instead. That's right, she checked her dropout & fork alignment, her derailleur hanger, waxed the frame, installed the bottom bracket, crankset, and front & rear derailleurs!

The derailleur hanger was a little tweaked, but we got it wired tight now! Then we took my Mom's dog (we were puppysitting the little guy) out to watch his(/my) Mom finish a half marathon. I usually regard rainy weekends as a curse, but this one blossomed nicely despite the rain, fog and clouds.

Oh and I forgot to mention. My Sweetheart is getting superpumped about this build, and she's looking forward to riding l'Etape du California in May with me. How pumped is superpumped? Well, it's even slightly more pumped than Buddy was to run the last half-mile of the half-marathon with his Momma yesterday.

I recently acquired a white with black chrome 62cm in great condition with 400 miles on it, my problem is that it's a bit too tall for me. Wondering if anybody is in the same boat the other way around and would be looking to trade a 58 or 60 for mine? frame and fork only.

Time passes and things happen...
Girlfriend and I split up, so I'm stuck parting out the Baby Peloton. But I just did a two-day, 180-mile credit card tour on my Peloton from Santa Barbara to back home. (Sorry if you've already seen the thread in the SoCal Forum.)

New to creditcard touring, I made sure to stop at least three times a day for a beer, to keep it from turning into a hammerfest.

If anyone asks if the Peloton makes a good touring bike, tell 'em Yes.

I just purchased an 86 frame (from ratfink, thanks dude!), but now I need suggestions on the build.
Here's my goals for the bike:

Resto-mod
Prefer Campy (Veloce or Chorus)
Most likely a B17 saddle
Compact or double crank
Solid Sunday morning bike (group ride)

Any suggestions on components? I want to do this once and do it right.

Gratulations on the score.
When you say "resto-mod", do you mean that you wish to use period-correctish Veloce or Chorus components?

I don't really know much about Campy (except for C-Record and Delta brakes), but the '86 Peloton has English threads in the bottom bracket, and depending on what Ratfink was running before, you might need to re-set the rear end back to 126. If so, that shouldn't be a problem at all, as these Pelotons are the Sherman Tank of bicycles (but much prettier) and can even stand up to many seasons of the most hideous cyclocross perversions.

No,by resto mod I meant newish (9 or 10) speed components but keeping the original paint on the frame and new but classic looking wheels. Like record hubs with open pros.

I'll post pics when complete but I'm finally getting around to completing the build of the frame CalamariChris gave me. I'll be a resto-mod as well but I can only do Shimano 600 Tricolor on her with a CF fork. It'll ride just as well. I'm down to two bikes in the stable now so I need to build her up.

Help a wingnut out...
I need a 22" frame, the 23" is just, big. I've known this for some miles now.
Think of it as a trust exercise, like the blind leading the naked.
Help from all directions is appreciated.

I am going to list mine soon too. Just lost interest. 56cm frame. I'll get around to unpacking it and taking pictures one of these days.

OK, after two years I finally got her built! I had to sell a few bikes along the way but this is now going to be my go to roadie.
Thanks Calamarichris! 2014 will bring more riding, less wrenching! Better pics soon.

(Chris: do you mind if I use your photos of the bike being raced on my blog? Nobody reads it but...)

The Prologue and Circuit must be exceedingly rare. I have never seen one in person.

Hang some parts on that Prologue's frame. I would love to find a Prologue or Circuit in 57-58cm.

You should PM me, then. Just sold a gorgeous Prologue in that size with full DA 7700, as well as a beautiful 85 Peloton also with DA 7700. Have an 88 Circuit that's been powder coated in Guinness Foam with new Velocals decals (before the Schwinn Police made him stop making them) with full DA 7400 7 speed as well as a slightly larger 59 cm 89 Circuit frame set ( the raspberry colored one with chrome stays and chrome fork). So if you really want one, there you have it.

1986 Peloton

I finally got to work on my '86 Peloton build. I bought the frameset from a guy on ebay a couple of years ago but between retiring from the Army, getting divorced, and moving to Florida I never got around to messing with it. Most of the parts- minus the seat, saddle, and bar tape- were stuff I had out in the garage. I adjusted the derailleurs today and took it out for a 15-mile shakedown. It rides beautifully....definitely less flex in the bottom bracket than my Trek 610. I know it ain't the quickest or lightest bike on the road but I ain't the quickest or lightest rider either.

How was the fit for you? Very nicely appointed, but I'm biased.
