Sorry everyone, but I can't get the stuff to RS at this time, as well as I'm gonna have to drop out of the game. I'm sure I'll get into it again further down the road.

Box #3 is In from acoffin. Just 1 more to come in before I ship the new BoC to Frantik, and special side package for DD.

nope..

one idea i just had, and it's not really a great one, but it could possibly prevent crap-box-lossage... instead of having the person with the box pay to ship it, have the person next in line paypal money to the person with the box.

This sounds like a pain in the butt and will require everyone to have a paypal acct.. (and unless everyone does a gift payment, there will be an increased cost) BUT it will also force people to pay BEFORE they get the box. I don't know if that would help in this case but it does prevent some of the disappointment factor.

Actually, now that I think about it more.. maybe it's not the best idea.. it could lead to someone ending up with the BOC and someone elses $17.. lol oh well it sounded good at first

RS: added you to the queue again I hope it actually makes it around to you this next time.
Draig: took you out for now as per your request; hope to see you back in the near future!
frantik: it was sounding good to me, until it dawned on me, too, that the potential for loss also went up! I guess we'll just have to keep up the trust level and hopefully it continues to, for the most part, move along smartly

Sounds like a set up for the "Nigerian BOC scam"... Please sir, I have this BOC that is no longer allowed to be in my possession and is full of wonderful bicycle artifacts. Simply send me $17 US dollars in the form of a money order and this prize will be on it's way to you.

I was thinking about it again, and there might be some merit to the idea after all. If we used the system I described and everybody paid using the normal paypal method (instead of gift), then the person who sent the money could file a report with paypal and get their money back if they never got the BOC. The person with the BOC would lose the money they spent to pay for shipping.

The main draw backs I see are increased cost and increased complexity. But it does mean nobody gets a free box of crap, and adding paypal to the mix means that there may be little more pressure than just some folks complaining in a forum.

I'm not advocating we switch to this system, just kinda thinking out loud.

BoC is loaded up and ready to go out later this afternoon, as well as DD's side package. I get that you guys are frustrated with the boc occasionally vanishing, however paypal funded nigerian scamming for shipping? In the words of Al Borlen: I don't think so Tim. I've been trying to give R2Y the benefit of the doubt, but to be honest reading through his profile and posts when this first happened the guy reminds me almost completely of UltraSpontane, just because these people sneak into the line up and end up taking the box doesn't mean we should make the rules brutal, up post counts to 500 and play paypal nigerian scam ... this is a game it's supposed to be fun, and we've never had any issues with rebooting now have we? I also recall an earlier incident where a BoC offender came back later and then told us we should change the game to the way he liked even though he admitted himself to being one of the worst offenders.. so let's just please keep playing the game folks, and I promise to try and help DD herd cats.

Thanks for the update, RS - and the spot-on missive; couldn't have said it better

Beats me why someone would risk/ruin his/her reputation here (after providing a mailing address and phone number, too) just so's they could hang onto a box full of, well, crap. Maybe I could understand - but not condone - it if the box were full of mint vintage and modern Campy or something, but geez...

Chalk up another banned member from the game: R2Y, I think after all the unanswered PMs we can safely say you got us; I sure hope you enjoy your haul

i kinda suspect it was a case of not enough time or interest to move the box along.. road2you's history shows someone who was excited about biking when they joined, but their posting frequency had already fallen off by the time the BOC was sent. they did check into this thread though, otherwise they probably would have gotten skipped

regardless.. looking forward to the new BOC coming my way.. kinda exciting to get "first dibs" on a fresh pile of crap

I assure you what the guys gave is good, I gave a bit from a pile and tailored it to a certain members preferences *cough* frantik *cough* and the people behind him should also be highly pleased.

I'm getting excited too, I'm curious to see what's in this totally new box, and I have a good deal of crap prepared for the box that I hope will please some people down the list.

RaleighSport, were you able to pull anything out of the boxes that were sent for yourself? It was your turn after all, just curious if there was anything you felt impelled to put to use.

I felt it was more in the interest of the game to rebuild it rather than take a turn this was also reinforced when everything came in and was quite useless to me

I don't doubt this for a second (after all, look at who all pitched in); my original post was referring the the box R2Y ended up receiving/keeping. It went through quite a few pairs of hands before it was snatched away, so I am assuming it was predominantly crap (as would befit a game called Box O' Crap!)

I wonder: should we move you up the list a little ways? I mean, you missed your place in line, and although I'm sure you don't want to be replenishing your stock with your own stuff, you are about 7 people removed from the Box right now. Your call

No, 7 out is nothing and hopefully each of those 7 knows just how ticked I'd be if any of them walk with the BoC at this point. So no preferential treatment please, let's just keep playing.
