The BOX is back on the road.

11,612g* of bicycle jetsam is now on it's way across the continent to @RaleighSport.

The B.O.C. was delivered to the USPS in true C&V fashion, riding on a Jim Blackburn rack attached to brazed steel tubes and powered by a friction-shifted freewheel drivetrain on 27" Michelin World Tours.

The handling bombing down my 10% grade hill was "interesting".

After the Post Office, I stopped in at my friends' new coffee shop which will open for the first time tomorrow morning. I sampled the smoothest French roast I've ever tasted.

Quick photo op in Central Square:

This Civil War shipboard mortar participated in bombardments of Confederate Mississippi River forts including Vicksburg.

Then I coasted through the library portico to drop a couple books in the outside box and head home.

Glad to see someone could use the 333 lever and the (off-topic for me) crank bolts. You should be able to fend off most attacks with that lever attached to a keyring.

BD - thanks for the bonus pics, and the Post Office delivery missive. I just bet the handling, particularly going downhill, was a wee bit strange with the lump hanging over the back!

I should get myself back in the queue now that I've got a semi-permanent address here, huh? I think I have a few things to toss into the box yet...

Thanks much DD... I promise that, unlike Ultraspontane, the box will continue on after I receive it.

By my rough count, I sent the box on its 110th trip*, not counting trips from the previous thread. This is quite impressive for a goofy internet game.

*my 2nd time participating; 1st was May 2012

crank_addict: welcome aboard.

BD: that many, huh? The number seems believable enough, as it means we've averaged one delivery per week for over two years. Notwithstanding a disappearance or two, and a couple delays here and there.

Cool

Yesterday was a very interesting day to say the least.. I stopped by the dump recycling center to look for a cruiser frame for a cousins husband, struck out on that front big time..

I did however let this follow me home for a whole 5 bucks (had a different seatpost that appeared frozen, and no wheels)

I was wrenching away on that project for a bit when I noticed the mailman full on parked in front of my driveway (unusual), so I decided to go see what was up.. I told my honey jokingly I hope the BoC doesn't show up today, as the rebuild kit for the riding mower deck was coming, and a few other heavy duty project parts.. by the time I got out there the mailman was gone but sure enough the BoC was sitting in my mailbox!

A look inside...

My haul...

I did end up having to grab something else from the BoC to get my build done,

Luckily I had a matching cr-mo spindle with the right races and the right length for my triple!

Most of my haul on the CB-2

Tomorrow I'm going to slap a rack on it just to haul the BoC down to the post office, then it's off to the Awful Waffle!

I tried filling a large flat rate box last night with decent crap I didn't want/need, but didn't quite get there. To fill it up, I'd have to cut into my good stuff. I'm thinking the following parameters for a point-to-point BOC might work:
  • USPS medium flat rate box
  • $20 flat rate
  • weight minimum? Ten pounds? (no packing material allowed? Full box?)
  • teaser shot of the full box at minimum, more pix or a better description if you want
  • on the receiving end, take what you want (or take the entire thing), show what you took
  • build another box and repeat the process

Rather than putting it on FS, assuming the admins approve, I think it might be best to have a dedicated thread in C&V.

I'll try to get a medium box filled over the weekend and post a teaser pick for feedback.

Your plan is solidifying quite nicely I think Skip, I like the idea of the dedicated thread especially, I think it also follows the guidelines nicely since it's just shipping and handling that you're paying for not an actual sale so I would think you'd be able to have it not in Sales.. I might get in trouble for this (wasting admin time) but I'd prefer the "expert opinion" so paging @CbadRider

Nice (fast!) use of BoC parts, @RaleighSport!

I almost booted those combo levers from the box because of space, but I tried again and was able to cram them in.

because of the lack of shifter barrel adjusters they were almost a lost cause, but I had a pile of borked stuff to be recycled and stole working ones from them So a big thank you for leaving them in!
