Hey Hughes, I just pm'ed 7/8 again. I figure we give him through tomorrow to respond. If he doesn't, then I'll send it to you. PM me your address anyway as I don't think he'll show. However, we'll give it one more day if you don't mind.

BOC moving on to Hughes

Good day all. After 2 pms to 7/8 and no response, we are moving on to hughes208. I'll be sending this on Monday. I'm sure that this box o' goodies will help to fuel the unquenchable bike fever that we mostly enjoy. I've attached a pic of the REI bag that I took and the bike that it will go on, as well as a pic of the newly minted box. There is definitely a little something for everybody in this box. Enjoy.

BOC received during the past week - sorry for the delay, it was a rotten time to be in Atlanta. Is now repacked and ready to move on.

As I received it it was bustin' full o' crap:

Here's what I took:

The level of crap has deteriorated from the last time, so given that and the fullness, I made a few command decisions about some items and launched those that fit the 'borked' description, which also let me add some exquisite crap. It also got a shiny new box which will be good for a few more shipments.

Enjoy...it's a crapshoot!

Thank God you took control. I don't mean to be Debbie Downer but that box was so darn crappy I couldn't believe it. We all need to get on the same page. I purpose a rule of putting in at least as good of stuff as you put in. Something has to be done cause that box isn't worth the $16 to ship it.

Ideally, each recipient of the box should be able to find at least $16 worth of value inside, then add to it accordingly so that the next recipient does too.

I'm hopeful, and have found some useful things before, so sign me up for my third turn with the box!

Thanks for the updates and add requests, guys. Post #1 has been updated.

16Victor: Did the box actually arrive ripped open or did you pull that open just a bit for the "sneak preview"? Thanks for upgrading the box; when it comes in at 25lbs+, the chances of it lasting more than 2/3 trips is seriously in doubt.

Everyone else: Yeah, it is a crapshoot. It is somewhat sad that we don't seem to have a consensus across the board of what "crap" and "s/h/i/t" is, but it is what it is. As noted in the first post, although it would be cool to find at least the buy-in fee (for sending the box to the next recipient) in parts once the box is opened, the possibility is that it may not happen. If I could figure out a way to ensure the word "crap" isn't taken to its extreme definition, I would. We've tried to give a good indication of what constitutes crap as opposed to "stuff nobody will use, ever, not even as a small boat anchor"; we can only hope everyone in line exercises a little "what would I expect to receive?" when they add to the box.

For those so inclined: The BOC is not - let me repeat, NOT - a garbage can. Everyone should have one of those in their shop/garage. Please use it instead of spending $16 to send the stuff you should've put into that garbage can. Myself and your fellow C&Vers thank you

No, the BOC game was never intended to be a social experiment, but I have to admit I've learned not a little about human nature in the nearly 2 years this particular thread has been going.

Well, I will say I'm putting in about $100 worth of good parts that I won't use and took out stuff I would use. I know we want it to be a suprise but maybe we should have people show what they're putting in too.

Yes it was received as shown. Probably left the last crapper's place OK but it was too stuffed to survive.

Another note - when inserting crap, please take care to protect it. I launched several old computers with busted LCDs. I imagine they were good when placed in the box but when banging around the hard parts, they surely got destroyed. Also, there were several rear hubs in there, and the freewheel threads don't take the abuse well. I launched one and taped the threads on the others for protection.

My take on the BOC is to insert good parts that I have no use for, but others might. The BOC is not a garbage can; we are trying to augment each other's projects and needs. If it's scrap, then scrap it; if it's crap (good sense), then BOC it.

+1

Particularly sentences two and three. Again, folks, pack it like you're the one receiving it - and remember, it really is better to give than receive

Or tag it in the box with your user name. Though that may be more effort than its worth. I like the surprise element though...

I would like to get in on this, however I don't know if my parts I have would qualified as "vintage" as many have. But I do have a lot of good crap (relatively speaking). Can I get in on this?
