ID help: an old triple-triangle frame with Schwinn decals...
Picked up a funky frame from the neighbor without any info on the bike.
Here's what's what: -down-sloping top tube (not mixte) and a triple triangle, like the GTs -The brake cable stop bridge is inside the triangle at the top&seat tubes. -lugged -The bike's been repainted, amateurly, but whoever did it left two stickers exposed- Schwinn Xtra Lite and 1020 Tubing (like the Le Tours & World Tourists, that old cursivy-looking font from 70s/80s) It looks like these were original, the new paint stops at the stickers, and leeches over here and there, not under. -Seemingly original Suntour Alpine front & rear drs, with cantilever brakes. -A drop bar and quill stem that may or may not be original. -currently running on 700c's All in all this looks like an early cross or mtb, but as far as I know Schwinn never made anything with three triangle construction. Also, all of their off-road bikes I've seen have horizontal top tubes. I ain't no expert but I've been scouring the internet and I can't find anything like this bike. Also, serial numbers no where to be found; I sanded the bottom bracket cup and nothing there. It's a cool bike. I'll try to get a hold of a friends' camera soon to show it... |
Does the TT slope because it is a small frame? What size wheels?
can you post some pics? a good close up the seatstay caps and the HT may help. Anything printed on the dropouts? I suspect either a Shogun or Nashbar |
working on borrowing a camera-
no seat stay caps, I know the shoguns you're talking about but there's no markings where they join the toptube like the shoguns have. nothing printed on the dropouts. the frame is about a 52 wheels 700c |
