A lot of firsts...

I had my first serious car hit tonight. I was stopped at a red at an intersection, on the way home from a class, and a woman made a left into the wrong lane and plowed into me. I saw it coming...I yelled...I couldn't get out of the way and a second later i'm rolling off the hood. Nothing seems to be too serious; the helmet took the head hit. My right side hurts and I'm hoping my leg isn't broken. I don't think it is, but it can't support weight and is very stiff. I got my first ambulance ride and my first time in an ER as an adult.

Not sure why I'm posting this...I'm scared and bored I guess. I have a final job interview with Comcast tomorrow and I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to walk. Not fun.

And my first time on crutches.

Damn - I sincerely hope you're okay, and I'm not even going to ask about the bike. That's for later once you've assessed the thing that can't be replaced.

Since you're up, around and typing, well - that's a good sign

Was the driver "otherwise distracted" when she hit you?

Heal up fast - glad you're up and around to tell the tale.

Aaron, I don't think it's wrong to say that positive thinking always holds more promise than the opposite. I don't belittle your scary experience
but you can thank your guardian angel for protecting you from worse.

You'll be sore tomorrow, no doubt, but I'll bet you surprise yourself at what you accomplish.

Cheers,

Julian

Yikes, sorry to hear about that Aaron.

Hope nothing ends up being too serious and you are made whole. Good luck with the recovery and the interview...at least you'll have an interesting icebreaker?

Mucho sympathy. Glad that you're whole enough to communicate, at least. Good luck with all the rest of the things you'll be going through soon.

Get well soon!! Get an attorney for pain and suffering! It happen to me some years ago, open door on the drivers side on Chicago's wonderful streets. I was chauffeured to the nearest hospital with a broken shoulder and that hurt! The women claimed I was going too fast, the officer claimed she exited into traffic, she said looking at me on the ground "he's traffice?" and the officer said yes and gave her a ticket! Good Luck, Mike

Always the best to you.

The fact is though folks, I was "almost" hit at an intersection two weeks ago.

I ended up with three cracked ribs, a hip pointer, yards of Tegaderm, and surgery to remove bone chips in my left elbow.

Why did this happen?

A young driver ran a red light while texting.

Thank goodness you are "ok" Aaron, that is the main thing.

Listen to the doctors, as I am glad I did.

Get a large jar of Advil, as I'd reckon the next week will be challenging for you as far as muscle pain goes.

As for the rest of you reading this goes, be very careful out there.

I know I know we are all trying to be like "normal" people and pretending not to care about the bike! Aaron, of course your health and well-being is paramount, so don't take this the wrong way but... which bike, how is it?

I hope it wasn't the Marnati or the Bauer. The rest can be replaced.
(and again, like I said in my first post - I hope you are OK. You cannot be replaced even more so than the Bauer)

geez man i'm just glad you're okay. that's the right move to go to the hospital and get completely checked out. lots of ice and then heat and rest and advil. i just got clobbered again recently too. very similar situation - the guy was turning left and just drove straight through me like i wasn't there. he pulled over to give me his info and then just sped away. totally destroyed my bike.

I really appreciate it gang, and I totally get the which bike

I'll come clean, I've been wondering if the Huffy is ok myself (good guess!). So far news is good...the Doc touched me a lot and no ear piercing screams. The knee can't support weight, but he said it could be bruising. I'm waiting on x rays. Like many said, I'm thankful it wasn't worse. This will heal in time.

Grady - best wishes on your recovery too.

Who knew the theft deterrent could end up costing you!

- Mr insurance man, what do you mean you will only give me $89.97 for my trashed bike?
--Well, a brand new silver Huffy can be had for exactly that amount, see here: https://www.walmart.com/ip/26-Men-s-H...mpagne/9207779
- But, but, but....

Keep us posted, hopefully the leg isn't too bad.

It has a litespeed head badge and a lynskey sticker! I figure a new lynskey's value is fair

The leg hurts a lot...right now I'm thinking of the interview.

I'm sure you will do well with your interview. Hope you recover swiftly and that nothing serious comes of the pain you're experiencing. Like others have said, I am glad it wasn't worse. At least you will recover and be able to go on enjoying life on a bike! Good luck with the job. All the best.

Aaron, Sorry to hear about the accident. Even if the leg is broken, I'm glad it wasn't worse. Take care of yourself and the interview will go fine. (FWIW, several of my friends work at the Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area office, and they all seem pretty happy at their jobs.)
