My nominee for Drew of the Year Award

Gios Torino Fixed Gear Track Fixie - $550

And I quote:
57 cm White Gios Torino with custom top tube brazed by the bay area's own Bernie Mikkelson. With the help of Bernie this bike has been converted from one of the classic road bike frames to a track bike. I had Bernie take the old top tube out to get rid of the internal routing and put in a new columbus cromo top tube. He told me it is also an upgrade because he used a slightly stronger top tube to deal with the torque of track riding. It looks awesome the way it is with the gold custom brazing bernie did still visible. I really want to put a clear coat on this bike and reinstall the head badge which i still have. The shifter bosses have been carefully removed. The rear derailluer hangar has been removed. The cable guides on the bottom bracket have been removed. There is nothing left on this frame that you dont need on a track bike. It has been fully converted into a sleek fixed gear conversion. It is unique and a real head turner. I get tons of compliments every time i ride. The components are top of the line.

I don't know what is worse? ruining a frame like that or after the removal of all the essential parts, not even bothering to get it repainted/powercoated. Looks awful with all that exposed metal.

I wonder how much deserved hatemail they are getting now?

Wait, custom gold brazing? Isn't all brazing rod brass/gold colored? I thought that brazing rod was brass? What is custom about that crap?

Why not just buy a track frame? And why do you want a track frame to ride on the streets? And just why?

There is one thing he said that I agree with:

"It is unique and a real head turner."

It is certainly unique and everyone's head turns to see a train wreck.

I need the vomit smilie...

The sad part is it would take some level of skill to make that work...

Too bad he couldn't have saved the effort and bought a smaller bike

honestly I'd rather see that than a similar frame with just the extras hacked off with a dremel. This at least shows some craftsmanship going back into the bike. Not that I'm advocating ruining a fine cycle, but Ive seen ones that've broken my heart a bit more than that.

Sure... But if you're going to do all that, why not just buy a track bike?

The Raleigh was a clever attempt to make a $50 bike fit the rider that was probably a DIY project. The other idiot paid someone a huge amount of money to ruin a nice bike, allegedly for aesthetic purposes, total fail.

This at least shows some craftsmanship
I think you are doing some violence to the meaning of the word "craftsmanship" in this context. That somebody has access to welding equipment does not make him a welder, or a craftsman. It is a disaster waiting to happen. On a positive note: when it fails, it is likely to sever the rider's means of procreation. Assuming the rider and "craftsman" are one and the same, this is a good thing.

What the WHAT?!!!!!!! Please tell me that photo was taken in a developing country.

At first it's like looking at a photo of remains from a violent crime- at first you're not quite sure what you're looking at. Then...

On TheSamba (a VW forum), we'd call that an "abortion".

is this one really "drewed"? i mean he just had the top tube replaced and now wants to sell it. not uncommon, i think.

now THIS one:

is another story. again not really a "drew" in that it was crap to begin with and still has most, if not all the brazeons, still intact. but "oh, the horror" of the mods.

it looks like something my dad would have come up with for me. i can just hear him (god rest his soul), when i mention that the free bike he picked up in the neighbor's junk pile was too tall for me to ride, with "well, junior, i've got a hacksaw and a welder, we'll see what we can do". then i would have to ride in ignominy on that monstrosity for several years like like that...
