Need Some Bottom Bracket Help

I've got a '97 Bianchi Trofeo, which came with a combination Campy/Miche drivetrain. The crankset is Miche, and the crankarms look like grey plastic. I decided to get another crankset for the Bianchi, and Robbie Tunes just happened to be selling a Campy Veloce with the right length crankarms, so the deal was made.

When I went to switch the cranksets, I actually read the instructions and found that I needed a crankarm puller to do, so I took the bike to my LBS. He put it in the stand, switched the cranksets, and tried to adjust to FD to work. No dice. He scratched his head, pulled the Veloce set off and measured the spindle - 122mm. He told me that standard spindles for a double should be 110.5mm. Looking at the crankarms, the ones on the Miche set are straight, while the ones on the Campy set are angled out slightly...just about 5mm worth.

I can get a new Veloce BB for $45...or get a set of external bearings for a spare Tiagra 53/39 crankset I have laying around for about $20. Or I can get a used BB and use the Veloce. Recommendations?

You know you want to put the Campy Veloce on a Bianchi Trofeo.
I don't think you'll be happy with the Tiagra.
(BTW, my Avatar is a 01 Bianchi Campione, all Italian)

crankset specs include spindle/bottom bracket specs. Google your crankset model for the complete specs.

Yeah, I do. Just getting a little tired of the learning curve on (relatively) older bikes.

I just did this, and only found one site that noted the required spindle - 111mm. It's a nine speed crankset, so Campy's website didn't come up in the search.

Actually you need a ISo taper not a JIS like the shimano. Sorry but you need the Campi BB.

Also where does the mechanic get the "standard 110.5" spindle for double BBs?? The length of the spindle is dependant on the brand and model of crank.

These are not much different price wise from the Veloce but seem nice. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=....c0.m270.l1313

Just get one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/Campagnolo-Vel...5019984&sr=8-3

or these:
https://www.amazon.com/Miche-Primato-...5020079&sr=8-1

Both are available in more than one spindle length. For the Miche you will need a Park FR-11/BBT-5 BB tool but that will also fit the lockring on a Campy cassette so it is dual use.

I think he pulled it from his memory banks.

He quoted me a price of $45 for the Veloce BB, which is about the same price as the eBay price including shipping. I'd rather get it through him, and have him install it rather than buying the tool myself for what should be a one-time deal. Besides, I've already got a lockring tool for the cassette.

Yep, support the LBS. We are losing one of ours in the area but the closest one to me seems healthy.

His memory banks, or somewhere.

I usually find the Ebay price is about equal to my LBS price, and the LBS does not charge me $10 shipping (standard price for shipping, ya know!) on top of that. So I try to go to the LBSs when I can.

You'll like the way the Veloce BB and crankset work. And they'll work that way for a long time. And BTW, a similar-spec IRD bottom bracket, the QB75, is also about $45.

Learning curve? If you buy the wrong screw to install your fenders with, and you strip the threads in the frame, it's not the fault of the frame maker. This is true for new bikes as well as older.

I didn't imply that it anyone's fault but my own. Unfortunately, this tends to be the way I learn.
