Peugot folding bike rear brakes
Hi everyone, i recently brought a bike from a garage sale, its an old Peugot folding bike, currently it has no rear brakes, i was wondering what brakes they had on them, also i found a photo of one that has been restored and i would like to know what the thing on the rear wheel is, ive included a picture with an arrow to it, as my bike doesnt have this. thanks in advanced. Sorry if its a stupid question.

The main thing to worry about is reach- the distance between the brake mounting hole to the center of the brake surface on the rim. It will be quite long, like 75 mm or greater, for the Peugeot folding bike. I've found that BMX side-pull calipers are cheap, effective and appropriate for these little u-frame folders, and are usually an upgrade over the original anemic brakes.
Looks like the thingy on the wheel is a bottle generator.

Yep, that's a generator. It'll slow you down a little, but not enough to use as a brake.
The bike in the photo appears to have a brake mounted down by the kickstand. Most braking is done on the front wheel, though. As cycle maven says, the issue is reach. Your best bet, if you can get them to fit, would be Tektro long-reach dual-pivot calipers.

yep, I picked it up also.brake under bike,
if you want to restore it- like put the original parts on it that missing brake lever is no problem to find,
new tires and away you go!!
