Has anybody seen my bike?

I know I left it around here somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

Maybe if I look a little closer.

Nope. It's gotta' be here someplace.

My neighbor bought one of those new Spitfires in ~'63.
It was just so incredibly cool then, and they're even more so now.

- And the Masi's not half-bad either Jim!!!

Ha! That ain't no single Spitfire. Which it's one and a half Spitfires, now isn't it? Because why? Because it has a 2-liter 6-cylinder engine, that's why.

The red Element of course is my neighbor Larry's. We refer to it as his red elephant. I'm not sure Larry appreciates that. On the other hand Larry has a nice Super Course (which is son currently has at college) and a Serotta.

You should totally put Masi decals on the spitfire as a team car.

Jim, how is Henry's long cage Nuovo Record working?

The Masi is smokin! Looks so much faster than that old car.

The long cage is working well. Since finishing the build you see there I've ridden the bike only once for any distance. I did my car/train/bike commute with it once last week. It's about 25 miles round trip (that actually took longer for some reason I don't understand ) and includes a few hills, the worst being the climb up the west bank of the Blackstone River valley in the morning. I had no trouble getting up that hill with 42/32 gearing, and the rest of the shifting worked great. I'm still getting used to the shift pattern though. BTW, that RD is an '84 which I picked up late in the build. I'm not thrilled with its ugly adjusting screws but it works well. The original "no date" RD was sloppy, and the reason was that the bushing in the outer end of the cage pivot was missing. You never know about the history of a piece with unknown history, if you take my meaning.

That "old car" though, it ain't slow. Okay, it ain't up to the Masi's standards by a long shot, but slow isn't one of its weak areas.

Yeah but only ONE was ever built as a factory hatchback -- not sure how to carry a bike otherwise (maybe I could strap it to the roll bar?).

Back to the Triumph -- are those Cosmic wheels? (I think they got the name from the price).

I wouldn't mind having a Tiger.

Yes, those are Cosmic Mk 2 wheels. They came off a Lotus Europa, I think. It's been a while.

That's why they made the Hillman Husky.

That GT-6 would be outrageous with Group 44 logos. Never mind, it's outrageous enough.

Whenever I see a 6-cylinder Triumph I remember the TR-6 I saw in traffic once. Pure white paint, but the body was RIVETED TOGETHER with what must have been hundreds of large aircraft rivets. It wasn't a racer or prototype, but a very rorty and aggro little production roadster.

It's a GT-6, not a Spitfire! Awesome motor - that Masi's cool, too and really well camouflaged when surrounded by classic British sports coupes. Cosmic wheels were very reasonably priced back in the early 1970's when they were new you'd spend the most on Minilite Magnesium or Wolfrace slotted mags, but Cosmics were just SO much sleeker.

GT6?...so that could be somthing like the MGBGT with its big motor (V8 in MG's case) Sorry I'm not a Triumph guy, the front cowl does look reminiscent of the early Spitfires. I'm interested in English classic sportcars of this type as I used to own a 1955 drophead MGA 1500 myself given to my by my father, so I know more about that marque than Triumphs. My favorite Triumph was the TR6, because of its very nice wheel to body proportions. My dad almost bought abrand new TR7 when I was in highschool, but I could not convince him to pull the trigger on it........maybe that was all for the good?....considering the headaches that come with owning one...That's the closest I ever had a Triumph in my life.

I still dream of owning an MGA 1600 twin cam one day........

Me too Chombi - I could only afford a 1963 MG Midget with an overbored supercharged (Allard) engine in 1973. The GT6 was gorgeous, better in my opinion than the MGBGTV8 - the handling was quicker. The TR7 shared the Stag's love of eating head gaskets but the TR8 "Bullet" version with the 3.5 litre V8 was something else, but you're right -the TR6 was the best of the bunch. Back to bicycles, anyone?
