Good Deal Gone Bad?

Must say, this is my first experience with a good swap deal potentially gone bad, and a real disappointment compared with the great sales and swaps done within this community.

Did a swap with mbbiker a couple of weeks ago. My stuff arrived at his address on the 18th according to USPS, but nothing has shown up on my end. Have sent a couple of PM's and an e-mail, asking whether his stuff had been shipped, but zero response. Nada. Not a "golly, I've been slow dropping it in the mail, will do that tomorrow", not a "it's been shipped, here's the tracking number", not even a "FO". Was originally concerned that maybe he got sick or was otherwise out of commission, but then saw he posted on the C&V forum a couple of days ago.

Anybody know mbbiker, have a phone number or any way to reach him? Had a similar experience with him? I'm kinda scratching my head over this...

Yep, that's the gentleman to whom I am referring. Based on his posts in the past, I get the impression that he works in a Wisconsin bike shop.

Not trying to be a d**k here, just want to complete the swap and move on.

Understand that life intrudes and things happen, but in a community like this we rely on each other to adhere to a common code of courtesy. When something like this develops it makes me realize just how tenuous that trust can be.

Meanwhile, if Mtnbike shows up, I have several new 'luminum projects including a keen-O Cannondale ST set up for light touring with 32's that he'll appreciate.

Well, it appears that I have been well and truly scr*wed. Not a word from this guy, nothing in the mail, no response to messages. I would suggest not dealing with him in the future.

As for myself, well, as mentioned previously...I know where he lives.

Best of luck to you rccardr, nothing quite feels like the trust being broken when dealing with someone and our passions.

If you know where he lives, you can probably find his phone number. And the number of the local police department.

+1. Or, with proof of your trade agreement via email/PM and your multiple attempts to contact him, I'd think you could at least take him to small claims court. People shouldn't get away with this stuff.

When I got screwed out of $500 a few years ago on eBay, while eBay did nothing, other eBay buyers who had gotten cheated by this guy formed a virtual posse, got a good address for him and contacted the local constabulary who showed considerably more interest than eBay did. They arrested the guy and charged him. Ultimately he paid restitution to everyone and the charges were dropped.

It took a LONG time before I ever bought anything from eBay after that incident.

rcard do you mind if I ask what you were trading for? That's truly messed up in my mind.. aren't you the one who kept giving away all the useful stuff in pay it forward for just shipping? I'm pretty sure you are, and you do a lot of good here.

Indeed, I was one of the recipients of Doc's generosity. He gave me a mustache bar and when I met him to pick the stuff up, he gave me even more stuff!! That's generosity at its best. Doc definitely does not deserve to be treated like this.

His package went out the next day. Hopefully by now it made there. I have no excuse for taking 7 months to finish this. Hopefully everyone sees this and if there's anyone else out there I forgot a payment to or to send a trade to PLEASE pm me or post here. I want to make sure any and all loose ends are tied up here. All I can say is i'm sorry I messed up

That's why there is such thing as HEATWARE (here's mine http://heatware.com/eval.php?id=66572). I don't see any reason why we have to do deals with nameless people with no recourse or feedback. It's free, effective, and it works. By the way, this is the only forum where I've seen it OK to ask the buyer for Paypal as a gift. You guys do realize that paying by gift gives you ZERO recourse. I think the mods/owners need a forum-wide shift to avoid situations like this. Every other forum I've seen employs these safeguards.

I've bought and sold a few things here with zero problems...I call it trust. I suppose I believe in a certain degree of comradery or brotherhood when dealing in the sale forum, but every once in a while something can go bad.
