The Rusty & Crusty build off and ride
So here's the idea. Grab a junker, the crustier the better and build up a rat-rod C&V style. We meet at a Pizza place, look over the creations, do a short ride and return for Pizza and beers. During the post ride fellowship and exageration hour, you cast a ballot for your favorite bike. Winner gets free beer and pizza. Build the bikes this summer and meet in the fall somewhere in NJ or NY (cuz ya can't get a good pie anywhere elses. right?)

Nonetheless, I'm in! I think I've got an really good candidate for the contest in mind.

My UO-8 may qualify as a trusty rusty.
When I was a UCLA student, I rode various theft-resistant old steeds, usually w/ horrid paint jobs. I hand-lettered "JUNK" on the downtube of my old Armstrong 3-speed, which I had converted into a 12-speed hybrid.

How far are you from Bethany Beach, DE? I've got my wife's family reunion coming up and it would be nice to get out of there and go somewhere bike friendly.
I've got several good candidates in the basement. If I put them all together I'm sure to come up with a winner.

I'm 175 miles from there. Seems I'm doing a lot of driving to get in some good biking lately. Weird, eh?

I can't make it, but here is a recent build that fits the bill. Total investment less than $120.
The bike originally came to me from a dumpster. I rode it as a 12 speed for a while, but the chain caught and pulled the RD around, bending the hanger beyond use. I bent the dropout back, slapped on a CL bought wheel with a 2 speed kick back hub and a bunch of things that came to me from swap meets: cruiser handlebars with cork grips, crappy blue pedals, awesome Brooks B66.

Well, maybe I'll make it if they do one in DFW. Substitute barbecue for pizza though.

If anyone wants to come do a simultaneous ride with me in southwest michigan, I'll make the pizza ;p
I use flour and yeast and mix the dough, let it rise, then use a lovely mix of mozzarella, muenster, parmesan, and asiago cheeses with a tomato basil ragu sauce (because I haven't figured out a better sauce from scratch yet).

Does it have to be ratrod style? I have a crusty old French bike which used to be beautiful, but I don't want to Americanize it or anything like that.

Yep, that's what I'm talkin bout. I skip the pepperoni because there's a vegetarian in the house. Does your kitchenaid stand up to the dough ok? I use a cuisinart with a dough blade. Ooops... i just went wayyyy off topic, cept for the crusty part.

I was planning on doing up that crusty Sports of mine, but I could go with a JCHiggans Spaceliner frame if it has to be ratrod. The initial sentiment in the other thread seemed to be more inline with velo-cheapo than ratrod specific.

The ratrodders are already doing one, https://www.ratrodbikes.com/forum/vie...9ae893267c3bfc
We should do it different. I dig the ratrod thing but it doesn't have to be redundant. I don't know what the difference is or should be but it should be different.
