Cannondale SM700 opinions

So, I've been in the market for an inclement weather bike, i.e., aluminum frame. This is something I plan to eventually turn into a trailer hauler too (once a trailer budget arises). So far, I've been looking at some older Raleigh Techniums and Trek 1000 series on a sub-$150 budget. In the hunt, I came across what looks to be a 1986 or so C'dale SM700, Suntour XC, with the 24" rear and 26" front, and in budget (although it would involve some travel).

Any opinions on this bike? How about on the Suntour XC groupo? Am I just being attracted to the exotic, as in, am I better off just saving the time, money, and gas and picking up something more local, cheap, practical, and dull?

Smithie, Just me, but I was never a fan of the 24" wheel. If that's a non issue for you have fun with it.

I really like it for the exotic factor, and I nearly went after a pink one with the 24" wheel that turned up on craigslist a year or so ago. I'm not sure I'd want to put a lot of road miles on one of these, but it would make a great trailer tug and rain bike. I bought a new 87 SM800 many years ago, and loved it. I don't recall having any issues with the components.
