Franken shifters

I have two sets of dt shifters, 7 spd tricolor and 8 spd dt shifters off a 2011 Fuji. Has anyone take the guts from one shifter a d transplanted it to another lever? Do you k ow of a good link to Shimano schematics? The levers look identical except one is polished and the other is tri color gray.
