Raleigh Technium 440 Front Fork Question

My recent acquisition of a Raleigh Technium 440 has resulted in a very nice bicycle. Cleaned up the rust and replaced gear cables, bar tape, tires, seat. Took it for a ride up and down the street and could sense that this is a nice comparatively light bicycle. One problem that concerns me is that the front fork appears to be 5 milimeters short at the hub (spacing between inside of dropouts). I understand it should be 100 milimeters across as is the distance from the outside of each locknut. Can not see any signs of stress at the head tube or in the forks. The headtube forks on this bike are chromoly forged steel. The head tube is steel also as are the lugs

What is the question you are having? Do you want to know if there is a problem with the dropout spacing being 5mm too narrow?

I would like to cold set it apart 5 mm but don't want to go to the trouble of taking the fork off the frame and am concerned about stressing the metal. Think I may just leave it although it makes mounting and unmounting the wheel more difficult.
