What do you know about Rampar BMX?

Greetings;

I picked up a Rampar BMX frame and fork at a garage sale this weekend. I'm way too old for BMX now, but the frame is exactly like the one I had when I was a kid (even the color is the same) and the owner only wanted $20.00 for it. So, do you guys know anything about Rampar's BMX line? I know they were made by Raleigh, but that's all I know. A few of my boyhood friends also had Rampars and we enjoyed them. That was the early 80's.

Thanks,

Sprayman

From what I remember they were a good, middle-of-the-road BMX bike. Not high end, but not department store junk either. Definitely worth a $20 bill if in decent shape.

I never cared for Rampars myself. In retrospect I think it's because I knew a kid who owned one and happened to be a real jerk. I probably projected my disdain for him onto the whole Rampar line of bicycles. Funny how we humans have a tendency to do irrational things like that.

I'm familiar with the R-10 but only because I bought one at a thrift shop a few years ago and did a bit of reading at BMXmuseum.com. I've searched for them on eBay occasionally to get an estimate of the value, but they don't seem to be very desirable. $20 is certainly a good price for the frame & fork. Here's mine:

Hmmmmm.....Hope I wasn't that Rampar-owning jerk from your childhood. I sure had a way of making enemies in grade school.

Anyway, thanks for the help. That's about what I remember of Rampar as well--not the best bike in the neighborhood, but nothing to be ashamed of, either.

Nice ride. I'll look into the BMX museum site that you mentioned. If I didn't think I'd look so damn silly riding a BMX, I'd probably ride it again. They're just so quick and nimble. I picked up a Schwinn Scrambler at the same garage sale, and that was a score for me since I collect vintage Schwinns.

Thanks for the reply.
