newbie need help

Hey what's up. I'm new to cycling in general but started out cus of car troubles n want to continue. So I'm wanting to buy an older/ used road bike for commuting n this dude selling a sebring superlight but the decal on it says Sterling. I know sebring is a Murray or nishiki bike but I'm having trouble looking up Sterling bikes. Can anybody help decipher the code. Would really appreciate it.

Can't do the 'cipherin', but that looks like a pretty decent bike.

Looks like a pretty decent bike. Without data or more pictures, I guess it would all depend on price.

All the Sterlings I have seen were really basic. I have passed on all of them. It really depends on price. IMHO, for your purpose, its hard to beat a bike shop branded rigid frame MTB. They are cheap, have good components, and make excellent commuters. In general, decent racing bikes run 2X to 3X the comparable MTB, as buyers want racing bikes.

That one in the picture actually looks better than Sterlings I have seen. Not great, but it does look decent. At the right price, it could be pretty good.

$50 is too low, pony up the $100, or something close to it, if it is advertised publicly (C/L). Decent bikes in that price range do not last.

Looks like a small frame size. Best to test ride it a fair distance and make sure it fits you comfortably before plunkin' down the cash.

Yeah, this was my very first thought too. I hope the OP isn't six foot tall!

Nope. Not that tall I'm 5'7...5'8 on a good day. I believe the bike is 50cm n I'm pretty sure that's the minimum for my size. I'm going to give a test ride tomarrow.
