1972 Toeclips - which Christophe brand design? + Italian alternatives
Hi All
I am looking for a very period-correct set of NOS toeclips for an 72 Italian bike. Can anyone tell me/show me what was the current 'Christophe' brand design on their steel Toe Clips at that time? As far as I can tell their toeclips remained pretty unchanged over 30 years or so but the 'Christophe' branding design evolved a bit. Want to make sure I get the correct ones if I can.
On a parallel note - if I really want to make this an all Italian build - were there any Italian-made toeclips being used on pro bikes at in the early 70's?. I see that REG and few other Italian companies were making some that were very similar to the French Christophe but were they being used?
I understand that Campy/Omas and Cinelli didn't start making them until mid to late 70's.
All advice/ideas very gratefully received.
Kind Regards

I remember using Alfredo Binda straps on the Christophe clips quite a bit back then- we didn't think much about them, they were almost always Christophe.

Christophe had different logo/stampings back then, depending on which size they were, as I remember. My memory is feeble, but I think the large size were stamped "Christophe Special" down the top cage. Have you looked on Velobase?

Velobase is a great resource. I encourage you to make a small donation to help Jon keep this valuable site viable.

I'm not sure if Ale was around in the early 70's, but I always liked them as their aluminum clips came in many different colors/finishes that you can match to your bike. Never broke any them on my bikes because the clipless pedals from Look that came out in the mnid 80's made me abandon them after just a short time using them.
I suspect that they will never last as long as chromed steel clips from other manufacturers.
