How do you measure BCD's?

I have so many chainrings i need to get rid of, and many of you need the right BCD's. How do you measure them correctly?

I use a Specialties TA packaging carton, it has a BCD schema on the back, very easy. Just overlay the ring.
Sheldon has a good list: https://sheldonbrown.com/cribsheet-bcd.html measure the distance between two holes center-to-center. You need to be precise as a few mm makes a different BCD.
