On my way to the 24hr Fedex store to pick up another SC

I posted about my new Cinelli SC a few days ago, I really wanted one.

Well, I as it turns out I found another one for a great deal and I'm off to pick it up right now. The chrome is rough, the paint too but if it was pristine I would not enjoy it as much. Pictures tomorrow. + I have an almost complete 1.5 generation C record group ready for it.

Well, so far I I hate fedex. The bike is in much better shape than expected but the box got abused and the downtube paid the price. Also, am I ever going to get a complete set if skewers? Lately it seems like I'm always missing one. I wonder what the skewer boneyard looks like at my local fedex warehouse.

What happened to the down tube?

Was it packed properly? Insurance? Brick through Fedex's window? (kidding on the last one, of course)

Aw, man - somebody owes you big-time! That's shipping damage, no frickin' doubt about it. I feel for you, dude

BTW, what are you needing regarding skewers?

PM me - may be able to help.

    Update:

The seller filed a claim with Fedex and someone will come assess the damage. I was given a choice by the seller to keep the bike or send it back, if everything turns out ok I will still keep it but I might have to do at least a partial repaint, it hurts to see those gauges in the paint.

This was the packer's fault, no question. FDX will most likely not pay a claim, nor should they.

Only you know what you paid, so you'll have to make the call on sending it back or not. It doesn't look like it dented. Without seeing the condition of the frame/fork, I'm not sure what I'd do. The packer should at least refund some bucks, $50 - minimum I would think. I can send you the artwork for new decals in the proper format, if you go for a repaint/redecal.

Well, the funny thing is the freewheel, which would seem like the culprit, was facing the opposite side. The bike was wrapped in thin pipe insulation but there are a couple of wholes on the box where the cardboard is broken from the outside in, I hope that will help my case.

The bike came with a full late nineties campy record group at a very good price, so I think I will probably keep it no matter what. I will take you up on the artwork offer though, I found a local guy that says could do a partial repaint.

This makes me sad; such a waste. I'd send it back - let him eat shipping and a lower selling price next time around. If he's that foolish, let him bare the fruit of his stupidity.

IMO he owes you the cost of a repaint and depreciation for the restoration...around $500. Anything less, I'd swend it back. He'll lose more than that if he goes the refund route (shipping X 2 = $150, that damage definitely costs him $500 on a sale).

    It's alive!!!

Well I got my frame back from Chester Cycles in Chicago and Duane did a great job. I went to him because he was willing to do a partial repair and here are the results:

    Before

    After

I should point out that the decal was repaired by hand. Duane matched the pearl white background and the lettering with paint.

This bike is taking a while... Mostly because of lack of space and time to work on it but I finally gathered all the parts needed and it is almost ready for final assembly and fitting. I don't think I'll be able to ride it until spring but this is one cool bike.

I'll post some better pictures when finished but here is a teaser.

    That is great!

That painter did an unbelievable job on those scratches and decal. Whatever you paid to have that done was certainly worth it. Gorgeous build. I'll bet it's going to be a fast rider!

Looks fantastic! I zoomed in on the "after" photo and couldn't tell where it had been touched up. Is that a new decal with touched up white background, or was the decal touched up by hand? The bike as a whole look awesome as well.

Yours is awesome, especially with the fancy art Grammo stem, but I have to give it to the white Cinelli - I like his saddle better aesthetically

Also - for shere eye candy, it's hard to beat Deltas and C-record cranks.

That's funny... I bought the saddle from GiosCinelli

The decal repair was done all by hand and the pearl white matches amazingly. The painter also touched up some flaking in one of the chainstays but it didn't match as nicely because the original paint had yellowed a bit back there.

The bike has a lot of imperfections but overall I'm pretty happy. I sold the group it came with, after the repair the frame cost me $50, not bad...

Thanks GiosCinelli! Yours is in much better condition and I love the modern components. I've been looking for an affordable group like yours for a future build but that might take a while.

Cinelli is one of those names that will always be "up there" in my estimation.

    Great repair job.
