late 80s 105 SLR brake levers , missing a part or takes different cable?

Good morning ,

Ok i've done several posts concerning my 1989 falcon re build.

all my parts are set except my brake levers(aero late 80s 105) do not take either end of A standard cable.

The levers have what looks like two open hooks vs the built in swivel that takes the end of a road cable.

I cant recall if the levers

A) took a barrel-end type cable back then (the barrel or cylinder would fit into the hooked channel on both sides)

B) there was a small piece that the cable went into that then slipped into brake lever.??

anyway need help with this one? I ordered cables and looked at levers and said WTF???

again these levers have been in the box for a long time, there in great shape with original white hoods.

many thanks

"John"

Post a picture.

I've owned about a half dozen SLR levers (600, Dura Ace, 105) and all took a standard "road" cable.

makes sense,

HMM somehow I do believe a tiny part is missing on both levers Ill post a photo soon.

Update, Looks like a small machined barrel is missing on both levers.

I spoke to a mechanic at one of the very good bike shops and he advised that vintage lever had a small machined barrel that fit into the cutouts. the brake cable went into it.

Bummer. Ill either have to make something or new levers? **********?

Ill cruise the bike shops maybe some in the bins???

Ouch. You're missing those barrels and plastic bushings? Better install other levers for now as it could take you quite a while to find just those little parts.

I may have a couple of trashed 105 levers that you can use for parts- free for the cost of postage. PM me to remind me to look tonight.

very kind of you,

many thanks, Problem solved went to 2 LBS and scrounged through the junk parts. found a slr lever at one (same size bushing)

found an older brifter at another that had the same style bushing though a tad bigger diameter (small files come in handy)

I made the slot in one of the levers a tad bigger to fit the brifter busing.

Im good to go! this mod should last untill I get rid of the frame or Ill upgrade to older 600 parts ...

thanks again!.
