I gotta say, I get a little let down and envious of you guys when I read about your ladies being into bikes, or even just going for rides with them. My girlfriend will barely go on a short tandem ride with me, and that's purely for my sake, not because she enjoys it. I got an old Peugeot mixte and cleaned/tuned it up for her and she didn't really care beyond an effort to seem like she liked it just because she knew I put the work into it. She's just not into biking at all. Surely I'm not alone here, right?

I bought this bike for my girlfriend recently. It was $30 and she really liked it. We wrapped the bars together and we have been on a few rides. The weathers pretty wet right now but she says shes looking forward to being able to ride more often when the weather gets better.

My wife rides her Bstone 300 mixte with me and I'm slowly building up another mixte for her. She freshens my bourbon while I wrench and often comes down to the basement in her nightie to hand me tools and ask questions like, "Oooh. What's that part do?" and marvel at my mechanical prowess.

The 300 has Velox bar plugs now and the bottle cage has been moved to the handlebars.

My wife rides occasionally for utility/transportation cycling (5-10 short trips a week), and very rarely recreationally. We both ride our kids to school daily except when it's below about 25F. (One daughter on the tandem with me, the other on a trailercycle with my wife).

My wifes wants to do more recreational cycling, but it's hard with small kids. As they get older, that will hopefully change.

Most often. I do make it a point to flex my muscles, tighten fixed cups and adjust headsets with the big Crescent wrench when she's around. She likes that.

That would get me in the dog house, dude. She don't play that.

Hmm... Actually, you may have given me an idea. One of her complaints about the Peugeot was that it was too heavy for her. There's a Bridgestone Skyway 12 mixte at our old apartment building that was abandoned. Perhaps I could talk to the manager and get a hold of it. Surely it would be lighter than the Peugeot, and I think it Might have been indexed shifting, which would help a lot if it were. Either way it's gotta shift better than that Peugeot did.

And actually my girlfriend has brought me a fresh beer and sat and chatted while I wrenched, but not with any interest in the bike. It's still nice when she does, though.

Well, in my case it's a girlfriend, in the case of many of you, it would be wife, and in some I imagine it would just be female friend. Your "lady" seemed to cover the bases pretty well.

I got my girlfriend a Bridgestone T700. She's surprisingly excited about riding and learning to wrench on stuff.

They're dead. It's just me now. Pretty sad, really. Thanks for the compliment. It was a nice bike in it's day so I pretty much just put it back together after tearing it down.

For me, it is a pre-requisite that they be into cycling, willing to get into cycling, or willing to go through the motions of cycling. The last squaw I rode with showed up with a nice older Bridgestone MTB for our first ride...needless to say, we've had many subsequent rides.

My girlfriend has a Lemon Peeler re-pro and an 80's World Sport that she has all done up with bright colored bits(still geared). She's more into it for commuting and the occasional group bomb around ride around the city. I'd love for her to get more into recreational cycling but I'm happy that she's just into bikes and supports me with my riding.

+100 - she rode her early 90's cheaper mtb twice in the past 15 yrs or so and complained the whole way on each ride. So the bike has now been utilized for parts so I could get my son's mtb up and running.

Her dad bought her a Schwinn in 1986 for college - I can't remember the model now. 6 yrs ago, before my C&V days, my brother-in-law gave it away because my wife never rode it. I kick myself now for letting him do that.

Mine likes to ride with me but wont get on her bike without me. Her interest is just sharing of the activity not really into bikes.

For the members here that are ladies, are your husbands/boyfriends into bikes?

We go on a few cruises a week together just to get out and pick up dinner or what not. Good times!

Mrs. Gomango is getting back into triathlons.



She rode home after this one last fall. Swapped out the pedals after the morning's competition, and she still almost beat us home on her De Rosa!

Uh, the boys and I were driving our Chevy.

She's racing again this summer, but the poor De Rosa is being put out to pasture by her Felt b2.

She rides constantly all summer long, so I am very fortunate.

My wife likes to ride with me every once in a while.
But one of the coolest things about her is that she encourages me with my hobbies.
She actually enjoys seeing me get excited about a new build.
That's why I always make it a point to remind her that
she's my favorite one!

I'm not married, nor want to be, but I do have a girlfriend who is into bikes and is a daily commuter. I don't think I would start a relationship with anyone not into bikes. At this point, bicycles are such a large part of my life, it would feel very awful not being able to share my interest with my partner.

Mrs. Gomangos lovely De Rosa is sad . I can understand, though - most of my friends who were once stoic C&V'ers started to lean towards modern bikes for competition and triathlons.

My wife rode quite a bit until she went over the bars one day while trying to scratch her leg (turns out the hand on the brake wanted to make the same motion as the one doing the scratching). Subsequently, she told me it really wasn't her thing anyway. Then this summer, I started doing rides with my 5-year-old on the tagalong. All of a sudden, cycling was a "family activity," and she asked me to get her bike out of the basement and get it ready to ride. I still haven't quite gotten over the shock of that day.

My wife is a bit fickle about it, but she usually rides a couple of times per week. She's a great tandem stoker and has two "single" bikes, and she rode around Lake Okeechobee with me last spring. I can't complain
