I think every year has words that make it into the mainstream and become overused. Some stick around, some fade later, some fade quickly. All are almost always replaced by new hip words to annoy the masses.

The only constant is change. In language particularly so.
Oh - and I'm changing, into a grumpy old man.
I'm with you on this one shipwreck.

"Epic" must die.
My friend had an "epic" lunch. I was expecting tales of a whole roasted camel with broiled hummingbirds flying out it's bunghole, followed by puree of spotted owl on toast made from orchid flour. Instead she just had a big sandwich that came with chips.

The use of the word epic hopefully fades soon along with all the crappy dubstep music in advertisements.

Man, you guys are epic cynics. Language is fluid, words can take on additional meanings without detracting from the original meaning. It all has to do with context. No, your friends ride may not have been EPIC in the literal sense...but you know that so don't be a nit-picking dork, ok? And by nit-picking dork I don't mean you're a penis that picks head lice. Get it?
How boring would it be if everyone spoke in "proper" American English? Ugh, no thanks

Since I was born in 1956 the English teachers ( all of the teachers for that matter ) I had through the '60's and early '70's were articulate and it was ( and still is ) nice to be around people who have some command of the language. Standards seem to be lower than they once were and although slang has been around for generations and I can appreciate it to an extent ( they can be quite funny ) there is something about hearing a constant stream of words such as "like", " awesome", "dude", "sick" etc. in speech as well as writing ( never mind foul language ). It is unfortunately the world we now live in with a larger percentage of younger people reflects this, although I am surprised at how many older people use some of them. The manner in which many of these words are spoken seem more crass and crude as well. There are so many words in the English language that can help make a conversation so refreshing. Kind of sad really. When I watch older tv shows or movies one begins to realize just how much mainstream education is failing to teach students sentence structure and grammar. I guess you have to call me old fashioned to put it mildly - which is not always a bad thing.
