Ambrosio 19 Extra Super Elite - width?
How wide is the 1980's Ambrosio 19 Extra Super Elite rim? Can you mount 35c cyclocross tires on these bad boys?

I think you might find them tight as Ambrosio rims of that period were often "big" in ultimate diameter and mounting tires difficult.

I agree the fit might be tight. I am pretty sure you can mount a x35 but it might be a bit rounder than usual. I have the plain silver version and I had some x38 Specialized cross tires on them for a bit.

He's asking how wide, not the diameter.
It would depend on the pressure you are planning on running. I run 35c Conti Cross on Open Pro's that say right on them that they are out of spec.
It depends on the pressure and where you ride.
I have never had a flat of any kind on mine. I use Tuffy strips and ride desert/mtn trails on mine, low pressure.
I am not heavy, though. If you are a heavier rider, you may pinch flat.

I thought the "19" in it's model name means a 19mm width for the rim.....
I think it's might be slightly taller than usual sidewall on the rims that make tires hard to mount on them....

^That's correct, 19 referred to the width between the hooks of the rim.
The Ambrosio Elite 19 was never a user-friendly rim when it comes to tire mounting. I have a pair in 27" and 700C....IMHO, they are not ideal for a wide tire. Under high pressure, the bead will roll off the rim as less of it is seated properly.

They are 19mm. I have a set of them and when I did some investigation I found that out. I have not had the problem of mounting tires on the rims that others have had. I put 700 x 23c tires on them. They look very narrow to put 30c+ tires on them.

I only found it hard to mount brand new foldable tires on them when I had them on a Peugoet back in the 80's, but after a few times taking them off and mounting them on to repair some punctures or change out a tube, it gets easier as maybe there is a bit of stretching that happens to the carcass and beads. I remember that after a while, I could mount them using only my fingers and thumbs. Taking them off always requred levers, of course....

I have a set of Gatorskin 700 x 28c (wire bead) on mine and haven't had any trouble with them. I'm about 180 lbs. or so, keep them at 95-100psi
