You don't know what decals to buy even if the PDF showed them...this is why you need to decide the level to which you want to restore this bike. A proper restoration will require you to do some digging and research exactly what you've got. Maybe some polite inquires with the VCC in England? http://www.v-cc.org.uk/

    Is your exclamation key sticking????

This is the Lenton Clubman from the 1948 catalog. All the parts and descriptions match, except for the rims that in mine are 28 instead of 26. There arenīt other models in 28" except for roadsters, which is really different. I just took a pic in the exact same angle to show the frame and pedals are almost exactly the same. Canīt it be this one? How do i know if the frame is a 531 Reynolds?

Sorry DB but it's not a Lenton Clubman if you follow the earlier discussion. The lugs are wrong, your chainring is an earlier variant, as is that very cool stem. Velognome mentioned Super Sports #28 (listed in the 47-48 catalog pricelist without a picture) and Neal suggested a Lenton Sports. The wheel size is an anomaly and may to specific to an export market elsewhere and won't help you identify the model. And no, that RL 49 is about 30 years too late.

    I agree with clubman.

The part of the Lloyds' list I focus on is this:

A42 RALEIGH "Clubman" Transfer set. Produced from 1947-1951 first as the Lenton Clubman, then the Raleigh
Clubman. Seat tube transfer supplied with "Raleigh" overprint to replace "Lenton". Gold, red and black with
long spear points on down tube and seat tube. Seat tubein two peices 370mm x 35mm, downtube (handed) in
two peices 430mm x 18mm. Correct period 531. Available as a set only.
    SET Ģ17.50 W

A50 RALEIGH model names from '20's, '30's' and '40's. All are gold block in a small fancy frame. Models as follows:-
"Road Race", "Utility", "Dawn Tourist", "Sports", "Popular", "Special", "Super Sports", "Standard"

I would email the guy in charge, at Lloyds, give him the link to photos of your bike, and ask him what he suggests. The "Super Sports" decal on the seat tube, with the appropriate "Raleigh" decal on the seat tube, would probably be best.

Cool thats what i need! Iīll check on those. Clubman, my intention is to restore the bike the best I can. Iīm not trying to find the exact same decals and parts, just trying to get help not to put a 1978 decal on a 40īs bike. U guys are giving me a lot of help! And my exclamation mark is fine, itīs just me that I get high on coffee and decal seeking at night!

Dear Friends at C&V. I emailed the guy in charge at Lloyds. He didnt seem very friendly. I did as u suggested, sent a really polite mail with pics of my bike, telling him we suspected it was a #28 Super Soorts and he replied it was my job to find out what was the matching transfer, he just sells the decalls on the pdf, i must pick n order. Really helpfull.
I then decided to go for this:
A50 RALEIGH model names from '20's, '30's' and '40's. All are gold block in a small fancy frame. Models as follows:-
"Road Race", "Utility", "Dawn Tourist", "Sports", "Popular", "Special", "Super Sports", "Standard"
...The "Super Sports" decal on the seat tube, with the appropriate "Raleigh" decal on the seat tube, would probably be best.

I just asked him if he had some matching Raleigh decal for the downtube, to which he replied: "These were usually at top of downtube, and there is no “matching” d/t decal per se"(I think he meant they are usually at top of the Seat Tube, not the downtube right?)

Should i go for the clubman decals? What would u guys do. This guy isnīt helping at all!!!

This is the only pic of a 1948 Super Sports I found. It just reads super sports on the seat tube, might this be the decal the A50 refers to? Id like some nice raleigh decal on the downtube!

I decided Iīll get the Lenton Clubman Pack. It has a really cool Raleigh dontube decall with some stripes + the Reynolds decall. I might even put the clubman decall and re bapthise it!!!! Some may call me a criminal, but it will look good, and u can always re re paint!!!!

Doc, you've been agonizing these decals for awhile. The Super Sport is a unique bike. Why would you put the wrong decals on it when the correct SS downtube decal is readily available? I think the 2 orange SS's you've found are understated and pretty cool just the way they are. (IMO the Clubman seat tube decal borders on garish)

But it's your bike and yes you can re-restore it again later. No, you won't be put in jail. Good luck.

Clumban youīre back. Iīm not a native speaker, u must have figured that out already, and i donīt quite understand the description for the Super Sports decal. Is it a downtube decal or a seat tube decal? I think ure right, i should go for the super sports, its just that I dont understand if its a Downtube or a Seat tube transfer, what colour it is. My bike isnīt orange, its green. Will they match?

The pictures of the 2 different orange Super Sports bikes in the 2 threads reveal a seat tube decal that may be blue or gold or both. Neither bike has a down tube decal. I had incorrectly identified it as a down tube decal, sorry for the confusion.

Maybe it will match, maybe it won't. How important is it for you to have the bike labelled correctly? Please feel free to use whatever decals you like. Seriously.

Great Info, thanx a lot! Today I talked to the former owner, whoīs a firendīs dad. he was the second owner and the one who sent it to repaint. the first owner was his cousin who sold it to him in 1951. He told me the bike was the exact same color, that menas the green similar to lentons. I asked him if it was never a orange bike, and he said no way. 1948 Super Sports only came on orange, for what ive read. Im abit confused on this! Will we ever know what bike it is?

That looks really sharp ! One comment, if I may, ...can the front fender be notched or clearanced so that it may sit better ?

    Is it a Golden Arrow

Hi guys! Im sorry to bring back to life such an old post but I got some new data! Last year we came to the conclusion that the bike was probably a Number 28 Super Sports. I was never too sure of this and i got some Clubman Decals and end of the story..until now. Against the chance of being a Super Sports is that the previous owner knows the bike since it was new and he claims he NEVER saw the bike painted orange. He said he repainted it to a very similar color to the original, which was kind of green-ish turquoise, so it must have been kinda the same. The Super Sports doesnt have my super cool looking stem (dont pay attention to the handlebars they were replaced), the fenders are not exactly the same, I got this little crome plated thing on the front. Look at what I came across looking around. A 1940s 50s Golden Arreow (at least thats is what the seller claims), with my exact same fenders, brakes, chainring, cool looking stem, similar paint colour, diff handlebars (not important). I have looked around in the web and golden arrows were made in the 30s but not in the 40s. The only thing that was replaced on the sellers bike is the 3 speed rear hub. I tried to ask him if he could get me the serial number but he was uncooperative. What do you guys think?
I think that its very likely for this to be the same model as we dont usually get the full catalogue down here, its more likely like somoene imported 10 golden arrows and thats it.

Doc, forgive me, but I think you are hunting a snark. I don't know what your bike is or was, but based on details such as the extremely unusual wheel size I believe your bike was produced for a small market, namely South America. None of us is familiar with what models Raleigh offered there in the 1940s. Perhaps the same as in GB or the US, but perhaps not. Aside from that, Raleighs of all periods vary to a surprising degree. Find a 1947 Raleigh product brochure in Spanish or Portuguese, and I think you'll know what you have. Until then, rejoice, you still have a lovely old bike.
