A Kind Gesture

This isn't really C&V specific, but I just saw this and thought I would share.

And here's the full text that got cut off:

To the editor,
This evening while shopping at a local big box store my son asked me to purchase him a new bike, his had recently been stolen from our neighborhood.
Sadly I had to explain to him that we cannot currently afford to purchase a new bike. Suddenly a large man covered in tattoos who was playing hockey in the aisle with another boy approached my son, handed him $350 and said "No child should ever be without a bike in the summer".
He then turned to me and asked that I do not purchase the bike at the big box store and to support a local business or Canadian company. I asked his name he replied Jimbo, gave me a smile then said “high five” to my son Scott. I am astonished at the kind hearted selfless action of this individual. It brings a tear to my eye.
Our community is quickly sliding downhill with the crime and to be honest when I saw this man approach I was nervous. It just goes to show you cannot judge a book by its cover and that there are still good people in this community. He genuinely seemed happy to see the smile and excitement he placed on my son’s face. His thoughtfulness of his country and city will not go unnoticed. Tomorrow I will be taking my son to a local bicycle shop and buying him a bike made in Canada.
So to this mystery kind citizen from the bottom of our hearts we, The Hicks family, thank you Jimbo.
Mary Hicks, Thunder Bay

That's pretty awesome. But, are there any bikes (other than high end customs) that are still made in Canada?

If they cannot find an actual Canadian bicycle to buy, they can also hep the local community and business by just purchasing any bike from a local bike shop. One of those smaller "Mom and Pop" sized one, preferrably.
That was such a cool story there. Maybe that was Santa in disguise taking his summer break!
Hope that person is also rewwarded for his very kind generosity!

What's it with bicycles and Thunder Bay? The nice stranger here and then all the nice bikes Randy finds thrown away in the dump every year? Is this some sort of cycling mecca we just don't know about?

That's a great story. Jimbo has some good karma coming his way.

But I have to wonder...who is stealing bikes in Thunder Bay when plenty of nice ones are piled high at the landfill?

maybe randy marks the ones he wants, jimbo lifts them and takes them to the dump...
jimbo is trying to pay back for his sins!

(sorry Randy-Its a joke Im just is the mood for humor)

Seriously
just Monday I was driving home when school was out and I saw a little girl (8?)pushing her bike...
her chain fell off, I stopped the car and waited for her to come buy and put it back on for her..
I told her "tell your dad to buy you a new chain!"
she did'nt even say thank you....
(the chain was really worn as it was hanging so low-its going to happen again.)
