24" Wheeled 1988 Cannondale SM600?
I found this sweet little thing today but am confused by the catalog scans. The serial number makes this out to be a 16" 1988 frame. The catalog states that they came with 24" rear and 26" front wheels. This one has 24" wheels on both front and rear. Is this because it's a 16" vs the larger sizes?

Did they still have the 24" rear wheel as late as 88? I bought a new SM800 around then (I suppose it could have been a 89 model,) and it had 26" wheels front and back. Yours looks like it does has clearance for a larger wheel on the fork, and the brake pads are angled down a bit. I wonder if someone swapped out the larger wheel?

Cleaned it up. Found two other Cannondales, recently.

1990 SM2000 frame. I threw a Kona Project 2 fork on it. I find it hard to trust aluminum MTB forks anyway.

I have seen a few youth versions of Cannondale's bikes. I'm wondering if the '88 could be one? Did you ever try to fit a 26" MTB front wheel in the fork?

It appears the the 24" wheels were used on all the 16" ATB frames in 1988. If you check the geometry chart on page 32 of the catalog, there are a couple of explanatory notes notes for the ATB frames. One that the SM600 used 26" x 24" wheels and the other that the 16" frames used 24" wheels.
