New to me Puch Mistral SE - Showoff + help needed
Good day,
I recently purchase my first vintage roadbike and am super excited to start piecing it together, and even more excited to ride it!
I baught this exact bike:
https://fotos.rennrad-news.de/p/98017
except without the headset, crank bolt/inners.
I am also guessing the crome forks on this picture came off an ultima?
So there she is, pretty much just a bare frame, but I would like to restore it to as close to origional/of that period as possible using Campagnolo parts.
I am trying to stick as close to this design as possible.
https://www.speedbicycles.ch/showBike...1dbea2842c63b1
If anyone knows the best way to get ahold of these parts for a good price, has some kicking around, or some good info about my build, please chime in.
I am looking for everything: Full Crank, seatpost, headset, brakes, Puch Stem, Pedals, rims/hubs.
I live in Calgary AB, Canada
All help is appreciated, Thanks!

"puchfinnland" should be able to help you. As his forum name suggests, he's a pretty big fan of Puch bikes and he should be able to give you some pointer on how to build up your bike. Shoot him a PM if he does not chime into this thread soon.

He did a remarkable restoration on his Puch. I believe it's that very same green as your link. There's a Thread on the whole process. Very drool worthy...!.

Well... Well....
welcome
so far you are correct- that is a SE frame
and Mistral forks.(holes in campagnolo dropouts)
ultima frames have PUCH panto on the seat stay tops.
the fork is off a 82-83-84 Ultima which is
My "holy grail" desire.
I noticed in the pictures there was a panto stem- and cinelli /almarc bars-those came off the bike the fork came from.where are they now???
"what happened to the correct frame?
your frame is 531, it will weigh in around 2100g
this is your bike I believe
https://www.willhaben.at/iad/kaufen-u...?adId=44147975
I have seriously considered picking this up for the Wifey
the correct "Ultima" frame would be 531SL for 82-84 it would weigh 1800g
it is the same frame as Austro Daimler SL from the same time. only difference is the AD is chromed and the Ultima was green.
to put this bike together correctly would cost you more then you could pick up a genuine complete Ultima
Ultima's dont come around very often.
this one 1987 just sold on ebay.de in original condition(needs full restoration) for 600€ that was cheap.
the ultima came with Campagnolo Super Record Titanium spindle,Titanium pedals and rear deraileur pins.
I was lucky I found a Pantographed stem(not original) for my bike
the chainwheels are impossible to find
here is mine.its a 1979 531 butted (sl did not come untill 1982)
my story is here:https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...mistral+ultima

this is a 1981
note the cables are over the bottom bracket and the fork style.
(there is this and my exact frame on ebay.de for a lot of money currently)
this is a link to a 1983

puchfinland, very happy this thread caught your attention.
Its funny, we both had the same insperation (speedbicycles.ch) and then I found your thead and was amazed at the work you put in. *slow clap* bravo! Shes a beauty
My into post was not very clear. That bike is not my exact bike, mine is just the same. Here are some pics of my bike and some of my Campagnolo jewlery. Sorry for the picture quality :S
Unfortunatly the picture I posted was not the same bike, and thus I have no idea about the parts, sorry.
Pictured is are all the parts I have pieced together thus far and already things are getting out of control haha! I have already spent more then I wanted to, but these parts are amazing.
I think I have all the Campy bling I need (unless I can find some bargen deals) so my question to you, oh mighty internet form, is what can I use that looks vintage (or around the same era) but isnt going to cost me an arm and a leg?
Mostly I am looking for a Crank, pedals & seatpost.
Also my campy brake bolt (that goes through the frame) is too short. Any suggestions on a place to find a longer one?
Thanks for all the help!
Cheers!

brake bolt too short?
is the length too short?
cut the tube down a bit, if the brake pads dont reach- well i never heard of 27" on a puch.
is that frame 2500 puch tubing or 531?

Yea, the bolt does not reach through the frame, im going to have to hunt down a longer one.
I am looking for a pair of 700C to put on her, those should fit nice.
It is 531.
Any suggestions for a budget crank and pedals?

Very nice Puch.
I have interest mostly because I have an '81 AD Olympian. Mine is 531 f&f but not the SL tubeset.
My large frame handles beautifully above about 14-15 mph.
I missed PuchFinnland's thread earlier.

well post some good pictures of the color in different light, I think there is a difference, and touch up paint for 15 year old car is not that easy to find either

Was unable to find a decent camera for some more shots but upon further review I think they are a bit different.
Waiting on my crank to come in, and then its build time
I hope to get some rides in before winter hits.
Anyone know where I can get my hands on some green brake cable lines?
THanks!
Cheers!
