Interesting Shogun frame / Sugino crankset

Searching the local craigslist I came across a cool old Shogun Professional frame. I can't really seem to find any information on the frame. It looks like it has some really nice details. According to the sellers description, the st length is a hair longer than I'd like and the tt length is a hair shorter than I'd like, but what the hell, I might spring for it. I like obscure bikes. Any information you might have on the frame regarding oem equipment would be greatly appreciated. I think it'd look pretty good with some sante on it myself

I noticed in the sellers add, that he had some other stuff listed so I searched for his other listings and came across this really neat Sugino 75 aero crankset that I'm pretty certain came with the bike. For the price the seller is asking it's hard to pass even if just to own the novelty, but those chainrings look pretty used up (or do they?) and I dont like my chances for finding a replacement ring. How rare is this?

It's Tange 2. Probably not worth it if it's not the right size.

For $125, I'd buy it.

$125 for that frameset alone? maybe $40.

that crank appears to be of the most recent anastasi. might be worth something, but i wouldn't mount it, as clay doesn't hold up to the stress of standing and mashing. the navaho made nicer looking ones.

I can't help but notice that the frame has a derailleur hanger while the crank looks like a track/fixie use.

What's wrong with Tange #2? It's pretty much identical to Columbus SL, both metallurgically and in physical dimensions.

+1 - probably another highly underrated Japanese frame.

I have a shogun touring bike (500, middle range i guess tange 5 tubing) It had some lower end shimano equipment, a sakae cx crank, brooks saddle, joy cartridge hubs with arya rims and champion alps bars.

From memory they had a range from the 300 all the way up to 1000, with various levels of components, braze ons and decals.
You could also go and order one to your specifications

Would look good with Sante, but unless you have a pile of Sante parts already, by the time you are done, you will have a lot of $$ into this one.

That's the challenge of buying a frameset. Unless you have a hefty stash of parts on hand, the build will usually exceed what an equivalent complete bike could be purchased for.

As far as Shogun, just another one of those nice Japanese brands, there must have been hundreds of them, where information is hard to come by. Appears to be what I call a marketing brand: a brand of bikes that were made by others. If so, those brands tend to be harder to get any information on, and they sometimes changed manufacturers. Most of these so-called marketing brands had good partners, and sold nice bikes.

That whole bike was listed and then sold to that flipper in Marietta for around $125 a couple months ago. Sad that it got parted out, when complete it was quite the looker.
