Portland Oregon - A locksmith with access to Raleigh Locking fork key blanks....Yeah

Went on a short ride today on my Superbe, and stopped off at my (LLS) local locksmiths just ask if it was even possible if I obtained the blanks. I've been here before and always liked the old school feel of it, definitely a lock smith and not a key cutter. And he's been of great service to me in the past.

Not only is it possible but he called his wholesaler and they do have "a few" blanks available. So $35.00 (25.00 for the master and $10 for the extra) later I'm getting a set of keys for my locking front fork tomorrow. What "a few" is I'm not sure, so if you're looking I'd recommend getting in there sooner than later.

Also should mention that he pulled out a key catalog from 2002 to get the part number, and they had other bike keys listed on the page (I know I saw Schwinn and Puch though it didn't say what the keys were for, just manufacturer and part number and a silhouette of the key shape). I'm not sure of their availability but could be worth a try if you're looking for key from another bike manufacturer. He seemed just as surprised as I was that they had them. Not only that but he really liked my bike, and talked a little about how they don't make em like that anymore, and who was I too complain.

So anyone in the Portland Oregon area needing a front fork key should give him a call or stop by his shop. It's A-Good-Locksmith at 5711 E. Burnside. There's a little bike repair shop next door too, though I've never been inside of it, I was planning on visiting after the locksmith visit, but forgot about it in my excitement.

Well, went in today and picked up the keys. He cleaned the lock, and recommend that I keep hitting it with Tri-flo for awhile to keep cleaning/maintaining it. Cut a master key, and stamped it so I can have the original for reproductions later if needed. Then after making the copy, he reached in pulled of a $5.00 bill and said his wholesaler took $5.00 off the order so he's refunding it to me, since I prepaid for the key and service (which wasn't necessary).

Granted it's not the the original brass key that would have came with the bike, but it does work flawlessly. And should I ever find an brass blank (I've seen em on ebay every now and then) I've now got the master so the cost would be minimal to get a NOS key for the bike.

Now I just gotta find a good place to lock the fork only, where I can watch the bike thieves crash when they try to ride off with it. Sounds like an entertaining evening if you ask me. Too bad I like my bike too much to purposely let it take that kind of abuse.
